Windows 8.1 won't start

Ok. I disliked 8, but seeing as downgrading was such a hassle, I stuck with it.
8.1 was a great improvement.
Now suddenly my home pc won't start up. Not even in safe mode.
I found my product key, but have no idea where to get the installs to start over.
Any advice?
Other than linux.
 
Does it come on at least? if it does, start it and press f8 continuosly.

This should get to you a screen where you can restore to a 'known working config'.

I had a similar problem after installing Nvidia display drivers 2 days ago.
 
Pop in the windows disk. Refresh will put on a fresh install but preserve your data. Then backup and move it off.
 
Thanks for the advice. I'm going to try and get the installs today, and try some of the suggestions you guys gave.
And here I was getting ready to finally upgrade my work laptop to 8.1 so I can use Hyper-V for some virtuals I need...
Sod that- good ol VMWare will do.
 
Compton_Effect perhaps disable Legacy Support/ Safe Boot in BIOS and also make sure AHCI is enabled...
 
The last straw for me was when I realized I can't create a Windows 8.1 install disk because I had a Windows 8 Product Key.
To get back to Windows 8.1 I'd have to install Windows 8 again, then run the updates to get to Windows 8.1.:wtf:
I would have had to download the Windows 8 Installs on my work laptop (Estimated time was 15 hours) or I would have needed to format and install Windows 7 (My original OS), then update to 8, and then to 8.1.

This sums up my feelings at that exact moment.

I posted a something regarding this before with a solution, it's a workaround though which you should not have to go through in the first place.
