Having just downloaded Windows 8 Pro 64-bit, I've gone ahead and carried out an in place upgrade.
Upon boot, I was asked if I wanted to retain all apps and settings, I said yes and that's what it did.
Everything, apart from an old scanner driver which i have not tried fixing yet, has worked very well, apart from the Start Button and gadgets to which I've become accustomed.
But then if you really miss a Start Button, look here
So, so far so good.
I still REALLY DO NOT LIKE the Start Page, but then I have my start button back. Until Mr. Sinofsky nobbles it again?
BTW, I have a large amount of various software installed, certainly more than the average Joe.
