I bought some 500GB SSDs for the kids PCs. They have 256GB SSDs in at the moment. Went to my son's PC and cloned the dive, swapped them around and booted it up, no problem. 256GB drive now used for paging file/virtual memory and extra space for programs. Running like expected.

Tried the same thing with my daughter's PC. Cloned drive, swapped around and no boot. Comes up with a windows loader error. Tried cloning with USB and with drive off motherboard, different settings etc. No luck. Same error. Tried dual boot software, recovery drives etc. Just no luck.

I then tried doing this, but with her D: drive disconnected. This gave me an indication that somewhere in the original OS installation, some files might have been installed on the second drive. With the second drive disconnected, it will just get past the BIOS and then fail. No windows error screen.

Any idea how to fix this without a fresh install? I am not lus to redo the bloody machine. And why would that have happened?

what software did you use to clone ?

I suggest you use macrium reflect for the best results as the other cloning tools are not consistent in results.
