Shouldn't it read Windows 7 Phone OS? Kinda a big difference...

And WP7 is kinda bright&shiny&original - too bad the wife didn't like the Dell smartphone i bought for her for an early X-mas prezzy...
 
mmm can’t wait for 2012 when windows phone 8 and their impressive desktop Windows 8 on all latest tablet PC's gets released...
 
How can you compare Mac OS, Android, Windows and iOS?

Prediction: If Windows 8 is as bad as it looks, sales will decline drastically by it's release in 2012. :sick:

Windows 7 sales will remain steady. :)

Seriously though, there have to be some really crap operating systems inbetween for Microsoft to make progress.

Take Windows ME and Windows Vista as examples (Some of the "bad apples" inbetween).

I actually enjoyed Windows ME at the time. Unlike Windows 98, it had decent USB support, especially for removable drives.
 
ME wasn't a terrible OS, it just didn't have a "True DOS mode", which was still
a much needed feature back then. USB support was better though.

To me though, ME seemed like an OS which didn't know whether it was Win98 or
Win2000.
 
Comparing desktop and mobile operating systems in the same report? What is the purpose of it? Browsing habits are one thing, but this report is pointless.

Yup, the sales of 18 wheeler trucks increased in January whilst scooters decreased. They're both vehicles right? But they have little bearing on each other.

In the same vain these are not competing Operating Systems and they have little impact on eachother, hence my point that they should not be compared in the same report.

This report has bugger all to do with OSs and more of the browsing habits of people on desktops, smartphones, etc.
 
Oh, your so wrong on all accounts. Its not "truck vs scooter" its more like "petrol vs diesel", it not hardware thats being compared, its software, more specific: the OS of choice. Android and IOS is moving in on the x86 and notebook arena as well. Its got office suites and everything that windows and mac OS have and can do almost as much.
All of them is an Operating System.
The comparison being made here is not to see how different they are. Its comparing which one sells the most, not which one got the better hardware or features.

Please, please try write a 300 page novel on an iPhone and let me know how that works out for you. How about some old fashioned programming on a tablet?

The software is hardware specific, as such you cannot take the hardware out of the equation. That's just plain silly.
 
My wife has an Acer netbook that runs Android and i've a few friends that have phones running Android. My previous phone ran Windows and three of my PC's run Windows. It seems to me that a survey comparing mobile and desktop OS's is perfectly acceptable.

Also, does the iPad fall under the laptop/netbook category or under the phone category? I think that its just a matter of time when the same OS is used by a company eg. Microsoft, Apple, Google for all devices.

You're over analyzing it a little, seeying way beyond what the article is about.


Edit: Are you by any chance a Apple fan? (Just doing a little research)
