Windows updates skrewed my pc

I have never updated my Windows 7 beyond sp1.
Recently I decided what the hell and updated Win 7.
It worked for a day or 2 without any hitches but recently my pc has started rebooting at startup and occasionally works for 15 minutes or so before rebooting.
I uninstalled some of the updates and it has improved but I have a fair whack more to uninstall.
I may even do a clean install now due to this crap.

Anyone else have similar issues?
 
I installed some updates a while ago. Windows would not boot and gave me a blue screen. Windows had to roll back some of the updates and then it worked. Really scared to update after that.
 
Yes i had a very similar issue with a win7X64 installation, after much deliberation i solved by updating the bios version of the motherboard, (carefull here).. my 7 is happy again.
 
I had the same issue with my new desktop pc. I installed Win7 along with all the updates. It used to randomly reboot whenever I put strain on the graphics card/processor. My laptop had Win7 with SP1 and did not give me any gripe.

I formatted and did a clean install with SP1 only on the desktop. It hasn't rebooted yet (been over a week so far).
 
It's just such a shlep to format and reinstall.
I am a music producer as well so I have so much to reinstall it's not even funny.
NI Komplete is 15 DVDs, fark.
 
Well, I can't update beyond IE 9 without killing AVI playback on Windows Media Player. It kinda sucks, but I don't use IE much anyway.
 
I would recommend you keep that many DVDs as iso if at all possible. That medium i often unreliable.
 
A DVD transfers data at a way slower rate that a HDD. I would recommend you copy all those dvd's (iso) to an external disk.

I know it's too late now - but even though mine are also disabled I always manually create one before a windows update. Saved my ass on more than one occasion. Hope you get it sorted out.
 
I think I may start using restore points tbf.
I reckon I'm at the point where I need to create a stable OS with everything installed and working.
Ghost it and save for the reinstall.

Should have done it years ago.
 
A Win7 64x update once broke my Windows validation, and for a month or so my laptop kept bugging me about my "illegal" copy of Windows (note, the same Windows that was on my laptop when I bought it new).
After a lot of headache and trying everything I could think of, I eventually went ahead and cracked my copy of Windows using a dodgy, probably malware infected piece of .exe trash I found on the net.

Been almost a year now, haven't updated since (probably can't anyway)

Daz Windows Loader works really well for that and does not affect updates.
 
I find this thread really hard to believe and won't recommend it to anyone that is serious about their PC security.

Windows updates don't just "break" your PC. It's probably software on your PC that is not compatible with an Update that causes the reboots or BSOD or whatever the issue may be.

I am a System Administrator and I update hundreds of computers ranging from XP to Windows 7 & 8 and we don't see this effect anywhere to what you describe. Check your antivirus software for an updated release. Remove the bloatware that starts with your computer. Diagnose and troubleshoot the source of the problem. Don't just uninstall and format and go bat dung crazy.

Windowsupdates on win7x64 is enabled, and still going strong.

No funnies so far.

What tera said. I'm also a sysadmin, still have to get the PC/laptop which bluescreens due to windowsupdates...

I am very knowledgable when it comes to computers.
Build my own, been working with software for years, studied programming, etc.
It's not that I haven't troubleshooted everything already either.

I've stripped the pc to barebones, run it via onboard graphics, new PSU, removed mem, etc.
Literally tried everything.
There were no issues before installing the updates so I can only deduce that the updates are the problem.
I have been working on this same OS install for years without a hitch.

You say it restarts? Why not turn off Automatic restart and see what the BSOD says?

Thereby you can deduce what the actual issue is.

What does Event Viewer report?
