Hi there,

So I have 100Mbps Fibre with a gigabit router from Netis(We have multiple people living with us, but one of them torrents during times that they should not be, so I would like to be able to limit their speed on the network completely as they are an issue(I have talked to them but they do not listen)), unfortunately this router does not have the ability to control the speed of individual devices on the network, I am looking for a Wireless AP or a Network Range extender that has this functionality, hopefully something not too expensive

Any help would be appreciated.

You can do via MAC or Source IP on the Asus range - and then limit bandwidth per user accordingly

I have the DSL-AC52U and RT-N12+ extender. Traffic Management is done on the AC52

Seriously? You even allow torrents on your network? Read this https://thehackernews.com/search/label/torrent download

I was looking into an Asus router for the bandwidth manager, does the n12+ have any bandwidth management options?
I would double check whether Asus can do traffic shaping in hardware or software. If does it in software then CPU may be not quick enough to keep up on the 100Mbps fibre link. Most of consumer routers have this problem.

For this reason I would use traffic shaping on the managed switch. The cheapest one you can find is TP-Link SG-TL105E/108E V3 R600. I has a port based traffic shaper, it does it continously (not a triggered as some routers do in software). Add on the LAN port some old AP dedicated to these people and problem is sorted.

TP-link is not problem free, but it should be sufficient for this application. Read notes from my experience here https://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showth...ice-amp-home-network-project-feedback-welcome

Get yourself a ubiquiti unifi ap. You can limit speeds for different devices using a speed limit profile. But remember this will also limit the internal local network as well for that device.
