Friend has a wireless solution from Kawuleza.com.
Roof mounted antenna with an ethernet cable running into the house.
Currently he is jacking the ethernet cable directly into his notebook, but is looking at an option to get a wireless router and then connect via Wifi.

What we need to know is; Will any old wireless router do the trick?
Something like Telkom's Netgear DG834GU v5?

Your advice would be really appreciated.

Cheers

should do. I have my WUG Equipment going into a switch then to a wireless router and i can use my wug access via wifi :)

yes, just use the wireless router as an AP, i.e. don't worry about connecting the WAN port to anything. Set it up on the same IP range as the one on the roof and secure it well :)
