Wits student poll question

Right so when you have issues about security on campus.
When you have issues about lecture venues.
Etc.

Who do you take these up with?

The faculty or departments directly.

The SRC was just a complete and utter waste of time and space at the university.

There's a reason for a student body, to prevent the same issues being raised by multiple students.

There's a procedure to be followed.

Granted the SRC in a tertiary institute is political, its role shouldn't be down played to being a waste of time.

So sammyD u want free education?

U are a wits student, where u involved in the protests.

When it is a waste of time, and serves a vocal minority it should be downplayed quite severely.

The SRC's as I have experienced them at university were quite litearly oxygen thieves and were not even worth the time of day.

As a student I knew my other students etc, and had a direct working relationship with the faculties that impacted my future so didn't need some numbskull middle man screwing up things.

And whose fault is that? If every student was involved then the SRC would serve the majority...

Issue is SRC is less about students VS it being a political stepping stone for up and coming politicians.
Know that was the case at UJ and seems to be the case elsewhere.

Leaders are usually senior members of the Youth wing of political parties..

Its the SRC's fault.

Not entirely sure what you are missing in this.. I was there to study, it is what I paid for. I didn't need some elected idiot to fight my battles in relation to that, I was big enough and ugly enough to do it myself.

Then don't say the SRC serves the minority if you didn't involve yourself.

Yup. It is hijacked by political agendas.

Yup. It is hijacked by political agendas.

Given that the majority of students are there to study, and don't give a shyte about the SRC it serves the minority. Its not rocket science.

So the same logic that I'm too busy to vote but I can complain about the government.

No...

The SRC is there to "represent" the student body in so much as it pertains to student life, not studying. Very different things.

Not in so much as the SRC has any impact...

I would be highly pissed off if the SRC had any impact on the structure of my course, content or lecturers...
The SRC is involved in things that affect a majority of students not just students of a particular faculty.

Things such as facilities used by students. Library, car park etc.

1. You said there is one and we should have it. Where is it?

2. Then what is privilege because your example was of a poor student that didn't have the means and the elitists that have money to vote 'yes'. Does my having airtime mean I'm privileged ? And does you swearing in response to that SMS not make you the elitist since you have the means to waste the opportunity?

1. The PYA had a manifesto, students voted upon that manifesto. Carrying out what's laid out in that manifesto is their mandate. Look for it somewhere.

2. Except being from Soweto doesn't automatically mean you're poor. You've got ballers in townships. Having airtime would mean you're a whole lot more than someone who doesn't. Second as pointed out by madam speaker, the reply isn't mine. Besides, what stopping all this and the meme responders being people who responded with a no, then deleted the message, sent this, to make them go viral.
