Wootware can sell PC hardware during coronavirus lockdown

Wootware has re-opened its online store and is able to deliver computer hardware in South Africa.

“We’ve been issued an operating permit by government and will continue processing and dispatching orders during the shutdown period,” the Wootware website states.

A redacted version of the permit from the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission is published on the Wootware website.

Rebeltech as well. Only to companies that are deemed essential thou.
 
What a joke.. I wonder if its a matter of paying enough to get approval.

If a shop like wootware is an essential service then every store should be allowed to stay open.

The only essential service that is not allowed to operate is the everyday tax payer at this point who needs to remain home and suffer, fuk this scam.

The legal advice I received was that hardware resellers are only essential only as far as those which service the companies providing essential services. I would be damn careful in terms of resuming delivery of orders which are not essential in nature or to customers who are not essential service providers as being in contravention of the disaster acts is dangerous.

A friend of mine needs some printer cartridges for work, he ran out yesterday.

They seem to be pricing themselves a bit higher during this emergency. In some cases a jump of a grand in two weeks.

While I get that legally one needs to be careful, having some tech stores open can be really helpful for people trying to work from home.

If your computer or phone breaks during lockdown... you're screwed!

I don't see Wootware's services being that different to what iStore is offering. They just do the repairs for you rather than selling you the components so you can do the repairs yourself.

There is maybe an argument to be made that computer shops should not be selling RGB light kits ;)

RGB makes my computer work faster, especially when I have it breathing in red.

The whole concept of a "essential service/product" is stupid.

They should rather base what is allowed on the risk of the activity spreading the disease. If business mitigate against spreading disease, they should be encouraged to remain open.

im not saying that i am saying the stock they likely bought before had a usd value attached to it, the reality is i dont think they getting stock anytime soon, yes it sucks it costs more but i cant hold it against them

But they shouldn't be pricing things like this within the last two weeks, but anyway. Just means once I get my stock I'll look elsewhere.

Every single company can provide a service or sell a product to someone working from home if you argue it that way?

I am happy with anyone being enabled to supply, as long as it is equally applied. Those who are unable to supply, under the same conditions, will lose their market share. It is how the ball will roll.

I have already seen some IT companies making their on-site services available, to provide essential services to homes and businesses. Social distancing practices must be adhered to, and some are vultures trying to 'steal' contracts where commitments have been suspended (or paused).

I welcome Wootware under these times as long as their competition is also permitted to partake. This is a big market.

One thing which does bothers me is the mixed messages the couriers are signaling, it seems some clients are more privileged than others. All I know is that both sides must have CIPC clearance which is what I have been told.
