XBMC Gotham v13 customisation tips for PC users

Yup. RC1. No hassles...
does Arctic have something similar to the In progressive widget for Tv shows? The in progress box currently only shows one tv show, I'd like it to show all the shows in progress.

Edit: Nevermind, I see if you press down again it cycles through the shows :o

Yeah, you can also disable that feature - it's optional in the skin settings. The menu is also customisable to the point that you can add the link to it as a custom menu item...

Might make sense to start the DB from scratch then - let it run overnight ?

No, XBMC will attempt to convert the existing database iirc, but it is best to start from scratch imo. I've got hundreds of movies and thousands of TV shows - takes about an hour on my setup (prior to the SQL install which is now pretty much instantaneous). Just remember to export the video library to separate folders beforehand and it should speed the scan process up considerably.

BTW, I wasn't a fan of the SQL install method before only because I'm not all that clued up on SQL databases. But it took me no time at all to figure it out following the guide and it works like an absolute dream. I wouldn't have it any other way...

Thanks DJ - got it going!

Didn't realise there were settings level on 13 - but the issue was that Directsound/SPDIF settings

No, just change to advanced settings in Confluence and they'll all be available in Arctic. Either way doesn't really matter - you just want the advanced settings.

Then make sure in your Windows setup that the audio configuration is correct. Right click the speaker icon in the taskbar, select playback devices, then configure it properly. Make sure in the advanced settings that "Allow applications to take exclusive control" and Give exclusive mode applications priority are both selected. Check under supported formats that Windows is actually detecting the correct DTS, Dolby etc formats. If not, resolve that on the OS level.

Once you're sure that all of that is correct, just set the correct output configuration in XBMC system settings, do not slect output stereo to all speakers if you want surround, and select WASAPI outputs - not the defaults. Ensure the WASAPI output is correct (i.e. to your surround sound system and not another device).

Then you're sorted. Any other issues are probably with the setup of your AVR/surround sound system and not XBMC or Windows...
Hi there I hope you guys can help a bit.

I am running XBMC Gotham 13 stable release on Win 7 with a Asus Xonar DG 5.1 sound card.

The sound was perfect and no problems at all when I was on 12.

I then moved over to 13 Gotham and all of a sudden the sound crackles on every media I play.
When I play it in normal Windows classic player the sound is perfect.
In my settings under sound I have allot of choices in example Direct sound SPFI and the WASAPI.
Not one of them work if I choose all the different options non works except the WASAPI Asus option.

With this option I get the crackle.
When I plug in an old usb sound device the sound is great again.
Could you maybe give me some ideas what to look for.

Thank you

Update your drivers. Try without the Asus to test. Follow my advice advice. Post if you have more troubles...

I tried reloading Arctic yesterday from the original zip since I rebuild the library and it says No Dependencies or something :/

Dependencies are addons, scripts, and services required for the skin to work. Check the first post of the Arctic thread to be sure that you have them installed. If not, install them. If it continues, manually extract to the appdata addons folder yourself...

Make sure you install the dependencies listed, IIRC one had to be manually extracted to the folder, the rest were in the add-on repository.

Power PI with usb ports from Samsung TV
hdmi to Sony Amp

I'm loving my Pi with RASPBMC.... I just figured out this weekend that I can control my Pi with my TV remote!! More Love

I have an LG Smart 3D TV, it connects to my LG BluRay player via its SimpleLink functionality. When I plugged the Pi into the System it picks it up as a DVR device in the simple link menu ... LG FTW! So From the simplelink I select the DVR, which puts me onto the Pi input on my HDMI 2. I'm not 100% sure but I think its communicating either via the HDMI or else the Wired network...

FYI, I figured this out purely accidentally, I bumped my LG TV remote the other night and the movie nav buttons popped up, prior to that I was using Yatse on my phone..

EDIT: Ahh .. found this page about CEC... explains it

Yeah the Raspberry Pi has built in CEC support by default. Tested it on both a Sony Bravia 2 TV as well as a newer LG TV at my parents place. You can literally hide the Pi behind your TV, it is silent and works with TV remote.

Just what I do, tuck it away, out of sight! I'm going to get another two Pi's for my house for use in the Lounge and my bar.

i tried running the latest rasbmc build (gotham) and installed transmission as well. they just don't agree, and the pi keeps crashing. I moved back to xbian, it's a bit slower but can run xbmc and transmission with no issues:)

Can the PI run 1080p, 3D and anything else. Alot of people said it's hardware is too weak to handle it

I connect everything to my Sony Amp which has BRAVIA Link or BRAVIA Sync via hdmi cables coming from Samsung Smart TV, DSTV and WD tV live.

Wonder if the amp will allow me to use its remote to control the PI.

Even better would be if I could use Samsung TV remote and it send signal through the amp.

I would think connecting the PI to smart TV first , setup CEC.
Disable CEC on Receiver/amp then connect PI to amp and see if Samsung remote signals work.
