XBMC Supersport Addon

OK, seems the inevitable has happened and dstv are now hashing the streampath... Im on it

Dammit! Hope the new version will still be apple tv compatible as some of the planned features will not work due to the limited 'framework'. Holding thumbs.. ;)

Does this mean with the new version we are going to need authentication?

Need some clarification about how to set this up. Will I need to:

1) Set up a HTPC with XBMC
2) Install your Add on
3) Add a TV card to receive the DSTV signal or be connected to Internet to receive stream

Is this correct ?

Yes. But you cannot use a TV card with this add on. You must be connected to the internet.

You won't get it working soon. The URLs on the website are now encrypted. Now while it won't take a cryptographer to decipher it, they could possibly just change the seed key on a regular basis making sure to keep the addon broken.

This is what I was afraid for, from day 1 I saw this post. The addon was really nice, now I can see it getting broken over and over because Multichoice want you to use the website or their Drifta instead of XBMC.

Of course they do - its why they're a disgusting monopoly... look how many people they went after just for scraping the guide.

Uh, oh, so thats why toptv don't want to provide a downloadable guide, and probably never will :(

What about using authentication in the addon?...

Surely that would actually work?

Well that didn't last long... Can't say I'm surprised. I am surprised though at how quickly MC managed to roll out that change though...

That might be a reason to try and convince Multichoice to accept the addon, HOWEVER it still leaves us with encrypted RTMP urls where the seed key can still change.

An easier way to get this to work is to make use of their Flash player like Boxee does.

As I mentioned earlier, I have a genuine multichoice login so I guess it's back to using the supersport site for live streaming. It was cool to watch from XBMC while it lasted though. At least you could watch in widescreen. I tried a few other similar add-ons like TV New Zealand and PBS, Fox news, etc, and they all show similar errors - probably for similar reasons.

A big thank you to Bounce for his efforts all the same. I suspect this won't be the end of his efforts. :)

hey guys... Im here, not to fear!

I have searched high and low for solutions to this problem, but have noticed that this seems to be a common niggle everywhere. I am looking at altering the existing rtmpsuck.c code that will allow me to effectively pipe rtmp streams into it, after which it will return the connection parameters.

I have however managed to come up with a scripted solution which effectively pulls the playpath of the video without decryption etc, making use of the rtmp_read handshake sequence. It isnt pretty by any means, but it's doing the job.

I will revert soon

Hey Bounce, if you are looking for another project. Try to hack Zattoo, and get it to work with XBMC, like you had done with Supersport. If you don't know what it is, if you use a Swiss IP Address, you can get the whole of BBC, and ITV. Sure it's not local, but apparantly the programming is loads better then SABC. It's even better then TVNZ here. Worth a shot.
