Xbox 360 issues, tissues.

I have a fairly big regular Akai TV and the quality looks fairly sharp to me, do I really need to go spend 6K on an HDTV? is it worth it? I see HIFI corp have something, ok not so big, only 93 c"m saisho, for 6K is that a good price?
I even have a TV licence, is that cool or what!!
If I do go and get this HDTV would I need to buy extra cables to plug into the XBOX HDMI port? this wasted empty hole is like really bugging me now.

Is it worth it you ask? HELL YEAH!!

HD gaming will open your eyes, its something else. And yes you would need to buy an another cable.

No you don't need it. It's a digital cable as opposed to the analogue component or VGA cables, but the output is barely distinguishable, IMO. (But then my eyes aren't great ;) )

The audio also tricky if you use HDMI as there's no separate audio out (the elite comes with a special breakout box) so the TV would need to support 5.1 out as well.

Getting an HD TV is a different story, while an SDTV still looks great (I just have a 74" flat screen in 480p), running at 720p does make quite a difference. And bigger is always better ;)

how do I know how many p's im running the Xbox at?

so I would need to make sure that the 6k TV supports 5.1 ss? is 6k a decent price? and then i need to find someone that stocks the cable, which doesnt really make a difference? all a bit confusing..

Audio thing is so freakin stupid ... how could MS be so stupid? :/ To get he sound you'll need an HDMI in/out AV amplifier or an HDMI out on your TV.

I have a SDTV plasma running HDMI and think it's looks - er - identical to component ;) Most reviews say HDMI even looks identical on an HDTV ... so I guess the only real reason is convenience?

Word of warning : they're going to try convince you to get an fancy gold plated with platinum ends for R1500.00 ... or an Xbox360 branded one at R500.00. However, they all work and I got a cheap one at R150.00.

I need the above post translated to English, I don't understand a word.
My little brain is telling me that I need the following:

HDTV with 5.1 and HDMI out.
what happens if the TV doesn't have HDMI out?
If TV doesn't have HDMI out do I then need HDMI amp?
So why did the one dude say I need 5.1 sound?
I then need some cable, but it doesn't have to be gold plated it can be some cheap thingy.
Maybe I should just stick with my current TV:confused:

ok, sweeet, I just looked at the ad again from HI-
FI and this TV says its HDTV ready with HDMI - so what wouild I need to get to make everthing work properly!!

Just the HDMI cable...... plug into tv.....plug into xbox done
HDMI carries both video and audio and for what i hear the cheapest cable you can find does near enough to the same job

Edit: twist HiFi' corps arm into throwing in a HDMI cable if you go buy the TV

hehe ... ok forget the previous post by me :P Ideally, this is what you want :

1) That HDMI cable carries both your 5.1 sound and enhanced picture in a single little cable. However you will still need a decoder to decode that 5.1 sound (to tell what sound to go to which speaker). Ideally you'd plug that HDMI cable direct to your amplifer (it has the 5.1 decoder) and HDMI out to your TV set HDMI in. So you signal will go Xbox360 > amplifer > TV.

2) If you don't have an amplifier with HDMI, just connect Xbox 360 direct o TV using HDMI. You won't get 5.1 sound, as I personally haven't seen a TV with a built in decoder for the sound. So, you'll get stereo.

3) A third way - which is similar to the first way - is connect the Xbox 360 to the TV with HDMI ... then *if* you have an HDMI out on the TV, you'd connect that to you amplifer for the sound.

You don't NEED 5.1 sound ... but you really WANT 5.1 sound. No train smash if you can't get it though. I think most people are using method 2)

Stop scaring the locals!

Must be amazing to play on HD with 5.1 sound! What an experience. I need to get that setup!

haha...whoes the funny guy who asked what the current setup is.
dude there is some cable that goes from the xbox to the TV - that is the current setup - the sound, it's like magic, comes out the side of the tv all by itself, no seperate amp or anything, as I said, magic!!

So anyhow no-one has said yet if 6K for a smallish 93 c"m LCD HDTV with HDMI is a good deal or not?

And I want the whole shebang - not just option 2 on the menu!!

So Ok, the TV has HDMI - so what do I need to get HDMI AND (yes I want to be greedy) surround sound - I want everything!!!!

HDMI amplifer, 5 speakers and 1 subwoofer.

I'm not sure of pricing ... maybe R10,000-R15,000? Add your R6,000 for the TV and you've got quite a cool Xbox setup with R21,000 ... :P

wtf:mad:

15k for speakers

and there I'm worried if 6k is a good deal for a TV

No :/ R15,000 for an amplifier, 5 speakers and a subwoofer. I'm only guessing pricing though, but I'd guess R5k amplifier ... R5k speakers ...R2k subwoofer ... so let's say R12,000.

I've seen though surround sound systems with like a dvd thrown in for R1200? are these like really crappy?

Furnic, ignore the friggin technopiles, ignore HDMI, just use the Component cables that came with your 360 (the 3 funny colour plugs you probably aren't using on an SDTV).

As someone said, you can't tell the difference, but more importantly you don't have to spend money on a superfluous cable and secondly it already has the audio connector so you don't have to find a work around.

As far as that TV goes, I've never used it or seen it, go give it an eyes on, ask them to hook up a 360, or take your own. The difference is like playing on a PC monitor versus playing on a TV.
