Had a look last night for the first time in my XBox manual and saw I could connect my Xbox directly to my laptop with an ethernet cable (and then use my USB modem to connect to Xbox Live). Thing is the instructions are as useful as a boil on my arse.

When first I connected the cable my laptop gave the Limited Connectivity warnings (was able to sort this out by manually setting the IP address on on the TCP/IP settings on my Network adapter). Thing is on the X-box side, Im unable to get it too detect the IP address on my laptop on the Media test (I've tried it with the automatic IP setting and I've manually set the IP Address, with setting the Gateway set to the IP address I assigned to the laptop but it still fails).

Anyone else able to get their XBox to connect this way(Unfortunately Im not very Knowledgeable in networking, so give me the dummies guide if you got this right).

we connected my 360 to my pc and then through a 3g connection to update it.
You just have to play around with the settings.
The biggest thing was the computers dns settings etc.

Please make sure that your firewall is down.

thx guys, much appreciated. Will give it a go.
