Xbox Live SA: pricing and launch specials

... Now I can imagine there are perhaps additional costs involved when it comes to hosting, which they might be factoring into their pricing since it's far more expensive to host here than in the UK and US, but, the current response makes it sound more like they're just trying to get away with charging more.

From what I understand, they will not be hosting in SA at all, so wonder where the extra charge comes from.

This crap is seriously making me think twice about getting an Xbox - I'll stick to my PS3 where I can play for free online

Sorry if this has been asked before:

Will I be able to keep my current subscription and if so I will just buy activate another 12 month subscription today.

I will tell you now what they'll do - they'll somehow find a way to force Xbox live subscribers into using the South Africa service. Microsoft will not launch a service in SA and then not ensure it's financially secure.

Guys can someone please shad some light on the benefits of signing up for XBox Live account in SA then signing up in UK/USA?

EXACTLY!!!
I've got an XB360 and i'm loving it, but i won't pay to play online.
Seriously, WTF?!!
If PSN can be free why is XBL not?
Games cost almost the same, so how can Sony offer the service free while Microsoft can't???

Hehe, what I love the most is that on the FAQ they state that the WORLDWIDE subscription cards are not guaranteed to work in SA.

Like wtf?

Have you seen the difference between your PSN and Xbox live? That's the reason why you pay. PSN sucks compared too XBL.

Secondly, you are moaning about R33.33 per month. Think about that the next time you have 2 beers at the bar.

We have been waiting for XBL SA for years and did you really expect and exact Rand conversion for the subscription? Name one thing in SA that costs the same as in other countries?
