That is exactly what I did in the past. Now I just kak'ed out if anything even resemble DIY or factory on the bank statement.

i did that with my sons bulb, I put in a bulb that looked like his old one. So one night while he was in there I turned it red, than blue, than green he was like mooooom my room I think it's haunted :)
Though having the rest of things automated may not slide twice.
 
All this talk about instant on and stuff has got me wondering if I am alone with what I experience. I turn on my Xbox (it's usually on Eco mode but I have the same problem with Instant-On) and I have to wait a short while for it to properly connect to the network. So I can't really play a gamepass game or stream anything until it's properly connected. The way I know it's connected is when these three boxes appear:

Is this normal or am I alone?

Don't have that...well not in my lounge as the Series X is set as home so can play even when offline.

Haven't really checked bedroom Series S, but I suspect it would be allowed to play offline as well as its the Mrs "Home" console.

I 'invested' in like 16 Duracell 2500MAh batteries and tbh they are hopeless with the Xbox controller but fine for everything else. I don't play a lot but do use the Xbox for media and it needs a charge every few days. When I game, it feels like it needs to be charged daily or every second day. Defs not 12 hours of gaming.

With standard AA non rechargeable Duracell batteries = months of use.

The other issue with the rechargeables is the Xbox battery level indicator goes from full to empty with nothing inbetween. Perhaps it's just my controller but fine with normal batteries.

Oh I've never tried duracell, normally uniross (great lasted years), energizer (also lasting 2 years so far) and cash crusader PK cells just about 2 years, those are starting to show a bit though.

I use 2000 mAh Energisers and they easily last a week, sometimes more. Then again I play with vibration off.

Also noticed that headphones plugged in can be a big drain depending on the headphones...

Exact same problem for me, also use those 3 tiles as evidence of connected to the network.

I connect via wi-fi though, don't know if a LAN cable direct into the Series X would resolve that (cable is always best from what I understand)

I also connect via WiFi, so I'm wondering if it's that.

Other than taking a bit long to connect, everything else works flawlessly for me. Even remote play.
 
So I started posting in this thread as my sister asked for advice on a gaming pc or console for her kids. As I am not very clued up on the current gaming environment (I am old school) I thought I'd research a bit and I knew I would get some valuable assistance here, which have thus far (thank you to those who responded, it's much appreciated).
Anyway, I was never really into gaming or owned a gaming system (only sometimes play solitaire). Obviously I have been watching some YouTube vids to see which console is the right one for them. Xbox series x and PS5 is way out of her budget so looking at the Xbox series S.
Problem now is, the more I research and look at vids and read threads like this, the more I too want to purchase myself a console. At my age, and to think about 2 weeks ago I wasn't even interested.
I am trying to fight the urge to splurge but also telling myself it's for research purposes so I can better advise her :giggle:. I can't say it's to assist her 2 boys as they will probably teach me a thing or 2. Just thought I needed to get this off my chest.
