Xbox Series X / S

Thought someone will actually comment on what he said... From the man himself he admits Xbox cannot catch up to PS and Nintendo, he does not believe better quality games will better their market share and states that Redfall passed their internal launch tests and as such released in perfectly ready state.

Yes I like the guy too but what he said today doesn't bode all that well.

I only disagree on the Redfall point. The other 2 points are perfectly reasonable.

Even if they do release better games (and he's not saying they don't plan to), people aren't going to suddenly ditch their PlayStations.

It's not like previous generations on disc/cartridge where you get a fresh start with each gen. With the digital age, people invest a lot of time and money in their libraries and now expect it to carry through. If you have a PS, you're not giving it up for that reason. That's why they're betting big on GP, it may not pay off immediately, but will in the future...

But that was specifically around external expectations of essentially flipping console market share “if you just deliver better games” - and I thought it was well put, and left me thinking “yeah, that makes a ton of sense”

Gaming market share is a completely different proposition, with an opportunity to dominate PC. Will they do it? Well they need to continue delivering quality games (which IMO they have, Redfall aside, which I haven’t played, but was looking forward to it, as I enjoyed Deathloop)

I have a PS5, so not a full on fanboy :p

Except Sony doesn't always want to do BC, they'll need to get over that. People can invest in digital but won't help you much if it's not compatible

I'm sure that Redfall was released in the state it was because XBox didn't want to spend money on it anymore and decided to cut its losses. I mean that's not something that Phil can say to everyone. From what I've read over the years, XBox has a very hand-off approach with the game development companies. The thing is that they gave Redfall an extra year or so last year to sort out bugs and everything. And Arkane just wasn't up to it.

So someone had to make a decision. Do we continue pumping money into this or do we cut our losses? Will probably be some layoffs at Arkane.

I agree having good games is not gonna win market share. In this day and age with digital libraries it will take more than a list of good games to make people switch. Example: doesn't matter how many great games Epic has or exclusives they sign up, Steam will still be my goto for new PC games purely cause:

That said Xbox App got onto my PC because of the GamePass service which is more than what Epic could do.

and states that Redfall passed their internal launch tests and as such released in perfectly ready state.

Rumor has it that Redfall was pushed out the door to free up developers for something better.

Sure some of it I don't agree with, but there is a lot I do agree on.
Also, the fact that he is "man" enough to face the music right after such a crap game launch tells me he is confident enough to stand by his f up's. Something that Don Mattrick lacked.

I agree that he is man enough to face the mucis, but if the leak is true that they knew it was going to be bad etc then why even release it?

Rather be man enough at an earlier stage by coming out and admitting that the game is not up to standards and they would not want to put out a subpar game and that they are shelving the project. That would have given them more cred than to push out a game to try and make some money of it and then at a later stage acknowledge the truth.

It just shows that MS and its developer companies are not on the same page.

I'm not too sure about that. Quality games absolutely move hardware.

You don't need to sell your PS5 to buy an Xbox. You simply need to feel like you want an Xbox.

May have read into that interview a little too much I guess but overall I still think he said a little too much.

And that is where GamePass comes to play. ;)

If they used that $70 odd billion to buy exclusive rights on console they would attract waaay more than just releasing good/bad games once in a while <-- My view

Edit: But for me it looks like the man wants to build a culture, not sell consoles. Cause all the Microsoft games come out same time on PC & Console

Does it really?

Last gen AAA?

GamePass is great for someone who starts gaming today and needs to build a library. Not so much for someone who's been gaming 20 years already. You know, we've already played most those games. Some 10 years ago already.

You need quality new content and you need it consistently.

Granted not all are good but you can see that they are working on new games.

So, the required hard drive for the case is WD but the official expansion hard drive is Seagate?
that's....strange?

Thanks I just saw that as well...can you get the drive is SA?
Is it worth it?
Would be much easier to get it from Aliexpress.
IMO its not worth it.

I believe the internal SSD in the Series X and S uses the same WD, hence why that specific SSD is required. I think the CH SN560 is also compatible.

What PS does right is quality over quantity. They make sure they have at least 2-3 exclusives that come out each year that is top quality, that like you said drives hardware sales.

Well from that I spot only 3 games I'm yet to give a go. Atomic Heart and the 2x Personas. Personas are tiring to play, hence I'm not in the mood. Rise I played on Steam, still busy with Sunbreak events. Wo Long I played twice through. 5x other games in the pics I played long ago already, 2x back on the 360 and the rest I have no interest in whatsoever.

I have GamePass Ultimate. I know what's on it. The whole library means little to me. I already played the good games. My \XboxGames folder is empty atm.

Also, they are all 3d party games. Xbox last released a first party AAA game 1 year and 4 months ago.

That said, to clarify here as this is the Xbox thread I don't harbor any ill feelings towards Xbox -I last played on PS5 last year as its dry there too atm. Been on Steam lately as its easy to pick up shovelware time killers sub R100 a pop on sale instead of R800 on PS.

I simply expect a better stream of quality games. 3-4 a year. Sony can manage it just fine but a multi-trillion dollar corporation who can buy out Sony a few times over cannot? Something is amiss, and I'm saying that something is good games.
