Xbox Series X / S

New Dash rolling out to insiders.

Not groundbreaking but better than the crap we have now:

Not crap, just old and dated. But it's functional and ergonomic.

I just hope they didn't break what works by refreshing for the sake of it...

Current Dash is crap. You would think a Software company would be able to make a smooth, coherent experience?

Sorry to say but Sony (A Hardware company) is doing a better job at creating a seamless UI. I am not saying I like PS5 UI just that it has a better flow from PS+ Now, PS Store, Dash, and so on.

Xbox UI is as unintuitive as you can get with Gamepass, Xbox Store, Main screen, and Settings all look like they have been developed by different companies with no proper communication. I mean for example if you ask someone that never seen the UI to navigate to Power settings, is fun to watch.

At least in the new UI if you know general icons, there is a hint on where to Start.

The Series S is 4 TFLOPS, which means that the tech for a Series S hand-held exists.
A portable S would be awesome :-) I have 2 X, 1 S and 1 One X, the S is actually surprising for it's size and power consumption. Sure you can see some cutbacks in games, like not hitting 60fps or running upscaled 1080/1440p but it does what I need it to do, allow gaming while using less power during stage 6 power outages.

To put it in perspective, playing Witcher 3 on
Series X (350W) + 58" TV (120W) = 470W± (PS5 Around the same)
Series S (70W) + 40" TV (60W) = 130W±
Nintendo Switch (10W) + 40" TV (60) = 70W± <-- Just for comparison,

Guess what we use during 4-hour sessions. :D

I say ± cause it depends on what FX settings you use and such.

With current load-shedding, Series S is amazing because of this power consumption. Sit at 150w with the console and a 55”.. and you know how Block 11 is.

Roughly that yeah, now Series X + my OLED + my 9.1 JBL 550w on bright scenes on dark scenes it's down to 300w. The 65" ULED with the Sony X-8500 and series X is 300 to 350w, while the Series S plus 58" is 180w peak.
When running the Series S on a little 24" it was 90w peak

Oh I know block 11 :-) I knows it well, I mean my gaming PC hits 400w just playing freaking Civilization 6, when playing Mechwarrior 5 it's like noooooo, scary that my 65" + Xbox and soundbar also hit 400w playing Civ 6 so it's no winning.

Devs already hate the Series S, you'll a lot more bitching and moaning saying that the console is holding them back, if MS make s portable Series S.

Not sure why they bitch and moan about the S, I mean developers on PC have to cater for a variety of different hardware, all they'd need to cater for is 2. Well if MS would drop the old Gen

I am actually surprised both One S/X and PS4 are still supported 2+ years into this gen.
Was expecting them to drop support in December

Also Ironicly people say Series S is bad for this gen overlooking the games still being released on Switch.

Yup + the games still being released for previous gen

It's really not that drastic. You'd still work off the same code base, and just drop res and/or frame rate. It's still a next gen system working off a similar architecture to the X.

Having to support previous gen consoles is a far bigger headache...

Exactly, in fact it's pretty close to PC hardware as well

All that's somewhat true between S and X and they (devs) still complain.

As far as I know the main complaint was that S needed all the options that X had, but since has been addressed back in 2022 ie: Developers can add RT to Series X games without being forced to add RT to Series S.
