Xbox Series X / S

Here's the SA pricing for the increase.

Even at R85/R129 pm you cannot deny the value proposition that is GamePass, and so far they haven't removed the 3 year sub trick either, so I guess you could still save more on a sub that way.

If you play just 1 of the First Party/AAA game pass games a year it's almost equivalent to a years sub in my opinion. And with the games coming out over the next few months/next year you will definitely be spoiled for choiceView attachment 1544309
Yeah still value for money methinks.

Black Xbox Series X price confirmed for SA (not sure if posted previously)

R8099 - decent price I think.Screenshot_20230622_093912.jpg

The updates to the Game Pass subscription pricing was expected, the increase in the price of the Series X was very confusing. If anything the consoles should be getting cheaper as the generation progresses.

For me, and I eluded to this a few posts further up on the series s vs series x.

Is that it's clear what the main "console" is for Xbox, it's the GamePass machine aka series s.

Can't help but feel pushing up the price is to deter people from the series X more towards the series s.

I mean who here can actually say there is a big divide in performance really between the 2 machines other than visually, and even that is open to interpretation

It's not like games are being developed for the X (yet) that makes a big gap between the 2??

As someone that had both: There is one moer of a diff between X & S

Once you play on X, the S just feels kinda hamstrung.

I've got both and it boils down to the following.
65" TV with most of the bells and whistles Series X is king
24 to 58" TV the Series S is alright, it does the job and it does it reasonably well. Surprising what they can squeeze out of it. Pity they never just upped the One X as that was also pretty good (still have one as well)

99% of 3rd party games
On S = 1080P @ 30FPS (RT does not exist)
On X = 4K @ 60FPS (30fps if they use RT))

Doesn't matter what the console can do its how the dev's see & use them.

With Starfield coming in September I will need to get another annual Gamepass (via Xbox Gold conversion) subscription. I also have a feeling that MS might end this conversion loophole or even up the pricing before Starfield launches...

CDC keys still the cheapest?
What's the best way to do this.
I currently have gamepass ultimate till end of June.
Do i need to wait for it to expire?

A lot of people are still on 1080p and the Series S will be fine, as they are 1080p 60fps not 30.

Erm no.
MS are gunning for 1440p (2K) for the SS. And several titles DOES include some form of RT.
And that 4K that the SX are aiming for does not always apply either, most of the times the games use a variable resolution and it quite often dip well below.

On average MS seems to be aiming for:
SS quality mode 1440 @ 30 FPS - some games does better than 30FPS.
SS FPS mode: 1080 @ 60FPS

SX quality mode 4K @ 30 FPS - some games does better
SX FPS mode: 1440 @ 60FPS

And in many cases they also use scaleable resolution - so not always guaranteed to hit the max res.
Above seems to be the norm for many games. I'm sure MS have their guidelines for game companies.

On the latest Digital Foundry weekly chat they again mentioned how well specced and expensive the SX components are. So my guess is that it will not be in their best interest to drop prices just yet.
They normally tend to make a loss on these high end consoles for much of it's life cycle...
