Xbox Series X / S

Almost had a heart attack this morning

Turn on the Series S and there's a green tint to the display that is flickering. I see there has just been an update so suspect something went funky happened.

But do the usual troubleshooting with rebooting, unplugging etc. Then I decide to swop the HDMI cables between the Xbox and Switch 2....oh oh, the Switch is now green and flickering!

Unplug the TV reconnect the HDMI cables (incorrectly, just because). And now both are working just as God intended.

Almost a ruined Saturday
Might have had a power brownout have had that happen

Yeah that sounds like the HDCP going wonky.

Turning all the devices in the chain off and then starting them up in sequence…TV….Audio…console usually sorts that out.

Soooo, my Ultimate Gamepass Sub came to a end on Friday. Was planning to get a 12 month Core key when I find one on sale.

Odd things I noticed Diablo 4 play as normal with people in towns and cross save and all. Only if I set my game as Console only it removes all other players.
No man Sky, anomaly is empty with no players but cross save still works and I still see other players constructions.

I do think how games play without any sub they may as well have free network play like PC. I mean even Free to Play games have full multiplayer with no sub required, just open it for the others as well.

Edit: Update found a 3 month sub for R230

Nope, at current GP U pricing I may as well buy a game a month from the sale bucket.

eg: I can wait for Hades 2 to come to GP or for less than a month's sub I can buy & own it:

Just go up to the middle one, it's close enough to what we had previously and it was the same price.

Naaa, I'm good with essential and I only bought that so that I can play with other.

Besides looking at my game time all I do is play Diablo & NMS anyway :D

Get ready for new Ad tier

Microsoft’s new Xbox chief, Asha Sharma, has signaled that Xbox Game Pass pricing is about to change. In an internal memo to Xbox employees, obtained by The Verge, Sharma admits that “Game Pass has become too expensive for players” and that Microsoft needs “a better value equation.”
“Game Pass is central to gaming value on Xbox. It’s also clear that the current model isn’t the final one,” says Sharma. “Short term, Game Pass has become too expensive for players, so we need a better value equation. Long term, we will evolve Game Pass into a more flexible system which will take time to test and learn around.”
Microsoft hiked the price of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to $29.99 per month last year, a massive 50 percent hike. The company tried to justify the price hike with a variety of upgrades across all of its Xbox Game Pass tiers, but the cost increase has clearly taken its toll on Game Pass.
I understand that part of the cost increase for Game Pass was down to Microsoft’s decision to add Call of Duty into the subscription service. I reported nearly two years ago that Microsoft had been debating whether to put new releases of Call of Duty into Game Pass, with concerns from some at the company at the time that the revenue generated from typical Call of Duty sales would be undermined by Game Pass. Microsoft went on to add Call of Duty to Game Pass in the summer of 2024.
Over the weekend, Windows Central’s Jez Corden hinted that Microsoft might be about to take Call of Duty out of Game Pass. “If they take Call of Duty out of Game Pass this year, which is a possibility from what I’ve heard, I think it will kind of reveal some of the cracks in the strategy, possibly,” said Corden on the XB2+1 podcast.
Sharma references the “online chatter” about rumors of Microsoft changing Game Pass pricing, and says she’ll “go deeper” with Xbox employees next week. I wouldn’t expect any immediate price changes in the coming days, but it certainly seems that Sharma is aware of the Game Pass pricing issues and is getting ready to address them in the coming weeks.

They should just remove COD from Game Pass.
Should remove that Fortnite tier thing as well.
Problem is there just isn't the install base to make GP econonomically viable, problem is you make it to pricey and you just lose that ground as well.
Xbox has sold dismissal and they can't right this ship now. They'll need to perhaps just bow out of the console market, prices are too high for the console, too high for the games, too high for the GP. We're heading towards a crash soon, as there are also just not many enticing games.

The sad part is that that is gonna f up the PlayStation space as well. Sony already charge more for games than Xbox. I can just see it get worse when they have no competition.

At least Microsoft is looking at "Game mode" for Windows including Quick resume. If I can bring my XBox library I will be as happy as a pig in Palestine.

Yup, but don't ever say anything bad like that, saying this generation sucks I somehow get Playstation fans jumping up and down. It's like anything failing will cause massive issues for all.

True, I mean doesnt take a genius to see an example of that with Switch 2's pricing.

When I see what my wife pay's for games I have a mini heart attack. I can buy like 4 games for what she paid for one 6 year old game.

Exactly, that's why it's so stupid with people knuckling down on some console war, it's like you realise if any side really truly wins, we're all screwed right? Competition is what keeps games reasonably priced, problem is we're not getting many exciting games.
PS went story driven samey games over multiplayer games and Microsoft just couldn't decide what their console really was, they had the most powerful one for almost two generations and flubbed it.
