Xbox Series X / S

You are supposed to yes, but I have been unable to. I get an error every single time.

Filled up a 2TB, got a 4TB, tried to transfer some games to the 4TB. Error.
Tried to move some games from the external to the internal. Error.

But will investigate more before I give up.
Your external drive may need to be formatted for Xbox instead of NTFS...

yes, quick and easy
Just to double check again, there is no real benefit getting an SSD compared to normal HDD due to the throughput on USB 3? Or will copying games between consoles at least be a lot faster?

Small files little to no benefit, same for random read and write. Large files will have a large benefit.

So depends on use case and cost associated if worth it.

Should be the other way around surely?

There is no access time for SSD so small files and random read/write should be much faster.

Large files with sequential read/write will ultimately be bandwidth limited by the interface and there likely you won't see too much difference.

I think as a whole SSD is always going to win, it's just whether the diminishing returns correlates to the price difference.

In total SSD is faster than HDD yes

Maybe better if I say you will only notice that speed increase when copying large files.... game loading screens and such... not so much.

Problem with small files is the OS not the drive... the drive is faster but OS operations screw with that on small files.

But that's what I'm trying to say it's quite the opposite.

Games load massively faster and things become a lot more snappy. It's copying games across from one to the other where things aren't really all that much faster.

Granted this was a larger problem on the original Xbox One generation as it was restricted to SATA2 interface and never peaked beyond that and when copying you always have a mechanical drive on one side. That's a bit different now with the SSD internally.

But I don't think anyone needs an external SSD with the Series S|X for storage and older games, just not enough benefit to justify the cost.

I got the eBucks deal and am new to Xbox. Just reading about the Live Gold/Ultimate games pass switch and see that Takealot still have the Gold cards for R585. I've skimmed a bit but it's a big old thread and haven't seen if this trick will still work if I buy 3 Gold cards and convert to Games Pass Ultimate?

I'll read through the thread later but just wondering if I should take the chance and grab some Gold cards while they are still there?

Will work as long as you don't have an active GP subscription...

Hey guys. Forgive me for asking something that's been discussed in this thread a few times. I just don't want to blow money and end up it being school fees.

I have used gamepass on PC before for a few months back when it was a beta. Would this affect the whole buying 3 X gold sub + ultimate conversion?

I am assuming that the process is:

* Load up gold vouchers
* Convert to GP
* convert to GPU (saw someone mention you'll get nailed if you subbed to ultimate before) for R15.9 or R150

I just want to make sure I have the steps right. Don't have the console yet but figured I'd grab the vouchers while they are on special.

You can skip the second step.

If you subscribed before, turn off recurring billing, wait for your subscription to expire, wait a couple of days after that, then load your vouchers and do the convertion...
