Is it at all possible to use Game Pass on Windows 8? I didn't do the free upgrade to Windows 10, so now the Xbox App doesn't work on my laptop.

Is it only me or are downloads on the Xbox Series X completely fubar?

I spent about and hour last night trying to figure out how to make it happy. I'll preface this saying that I have a gigabit fibre connection with the Xbox wired.

I start trying to download a game and it's sitting at like 100Kbps, it may spike to 500Kbps at times. I try everything I find on the internet, no matter how absurd, to try and fix it and nothing changes. So I decide to connect via wifi instead and speeds start looking better at around 15-20Mbps. Still crap, but moving in the right direction. I then decide to plug the ethernet cable back in and the speeds now start going up to 150-200Mbps, erratic as all hell but at least it's doing something.

Speeds start falling again so I try the wifi/cable swap trick again and it goes back up, then it falls back down so I've about had enough and walk away for a bit. Come back after a while and now it's downloading at 350Mbps. 5 minutes later it's at 15Mbps again. At this point I've given up completely and the Xbox is just a brick sitting in my entertainment cabinet.

Anyone have some advice on this?

It's how the series X seems to be. Apparently they will be releasing a patch that will make games kill internet connections while they are in memory or something

Kill any games that you have open or suspended.

Games kill your download speeds to prioritise traffic to the games. New patch should fix this...

Find myself wondering what the point of Gold is now that the online play part of it is free. I am starting to think it's only a matter of time until Gold is no more.

Great news for newcomers to the console - back in my 360 days I always thought paying to play online was lame. But sad news for Gamepass I think - no Gold means the Gamepass trick may not be possible once my current sub expires.
