Anyone else getting rather excited about this one? From what I have seen this looks awesome.

Yep, extremely excited. The video footage looks amazing and the guys that got to play it early are raving about it.

Pre-ordering on pay day. :D

Can't wait.

I am also considering that. Just the small problem of 2 exams in October. But at least I will be able to tell the SO I am busy 'studying'.

This looks very good, I lost endless hours on the original Xcom games, when I was wee high. :D
And considering that the same guys who made this, very the same guys that released the last 2 installments of the Civ series..... it should be bloody good as well.

Preordered it the first day it was on steam.

Reading all the previews and watching videos are making me WAY too excited for this game - it really looks like it's going to be a proper reboot of one of the, scratch that, THE best game I ever had the pleasure of playing.

Incidentally, is anyone even looking forward to that *other* XCom game anymore? I think it was called XCom: The Phantom Menace or something

Breathing life into this thread.......

I watched a youtube clip last night of the gameplay.......... it looks bloody brilliant.
So no that I am definitely convinced that I will be getting the game, I am sitting with the dilemma...... Do I get it for the PC or for my Xbox?

Yes it looks awesome!! I preordered mine off Steam, and am really hoping all 3 tiers are unlocked (tier 1 had ingame customisable options and the classic blonde boxtop soldier, tier 2 had unlocks for TF2 and tier 3 has a free copy of Civ 4). Not that I'm trying to sway which platform you should get it for or anything.... :D

As far as I could tell, most of those vids were demo'd on the 360, so I wouldn't be to fussed about 'losing' anything to the PC controls.

What I like is that it largely seems like tweaks to the orginal's gameplay mechanics, however I would not have minded if they had stuck with the classic turn-based scheme. I really hope this is a phenominal success, leading to Terror from the Deep and Apocalypse given the same love...

Hence the reason I am seriously considering getting it on the console.

I check the progress of the Tier 3 unlock on Steam daily, doubt it will unlock it though.
I do have a collection of games on Steam, and I prefer to keep everything on there...... but lately I tend to spend more time playing on my Xbox that I do on my PC.
I any case, I do have Civ V and all it's DLC's, so that's not really a concern for me, also the Xbox version has the Tier 1 unlocks as well....... don't really care for the Tier 2 ones, with the stuffs for TF2.

Ahhhh....... decisions, decisions.

X-Com on console :erm:

I pre-ordered it on Steam yesterday already :D

The only thing you'd probably lose to using a console controller is time, being that it is turn-based.

Having said that though, I'm have no doubt that anyone who played the original will be getting it on PC :> super keen for it

I don't really think the time will be that great an issue.... I remember when playing the original and spotting an alien, taking a min or 2 to figure out the movement path that would hopefully net me 0 casualties.... That was what I loved about the turn-based element of XCom. You could just move and pray, but you could also play a very strategic game.

Out of curiosity, what do they mean by this on the Steam store?: *Rewards will be backfilled once we reach the next level.

Is that isolated text or is it part of some other body of text, as I have know idea what it could mean.... Unless it's saying rewards won't show until that level is reached??

So did anyone else play the demo??? Thoughts? Bar it was too short/limiting....

That little line is just underneath the Rewards.
Now, I think it has something to do in the line of: If I only pre-order now while it's busy unlocking the 3rd Tier of rewards, as apposed to ealier in say.... the 1st or 2nd tier, I might not get all the rewards.

That's what I think, I might be wrong.

TFTD never caught on with me for some reason, always preferred UFO Defense.... although I remember that the game got difficult as hell at times.

I tried playing the first 2 xcoms again.... and as much as I don't judge a game on its gfx, that was a little too much for my eyeballs to handle. TftD haunted me. I always thought I NEED a tank to blow them aliens back into space, but the pain I suffered after their loss was..... great....

Ok there's no real spoilers to give away here, so with the new XCOM, I feel it has the potential to bring back those old memories. While not exactly the same mechanic of turn-based gameplay is used, the end goal is exactly the same. You still operate in turns (you do everything you can with your soldiers - or end the turn when ready - then the aliens have theirs).

The story/acting are the area's of concern for me. But perhaps I'm being to harsh in the very limited session of gameplay you have in the demo. There is the tutorial, a brief base overview and one real mission. I'm looking forward to this game though.... The research, base building, upgrades and of course, my tactical prowess :D
