That's not too bad, considering its a 3GB ram and 32gig storage. Still works out cheaper.

So my phone dropped out of my pocket. Not very high as I was seated, but about 40cm-50cm drop onto tiles. No damage.

Dropped mine friday night, Probably +- 1m from a table (Jonny Walker double black's fault). Bezel is bend, but no other sign of damage.

Have had some near drops too. These things are rather slippery. I panic when someone asks to hold the phone when seeing it.

This is why I want a case.... the metal body is nice but hard to grip

Why don't you just buy it from Gearbest, $ 139.89 for the 16 GB and $ 169.89 for the 32 GB. I ordered a new Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 PRO 4GB RAM, 64 GB ROM from them last week for $ 217.89.

Just make sure you ask for the shipping by FedEx Expedited and insured. It should be here in 7 days, and you will have peace of mind as the SA post office will not be involved in the equation.

Keen to hear your experiences on this.
Been hesitant because of SAPO/Customs.

Same, the device with DHL still works out cheaper than buying it here... It's just customs/other fees I'm not sure of when it arrives.

Both orders were placed on 6th September on Banggood

China post, took 3 weeks + to arrive, then another 3 weeks + to clear

This was DHL parcel delivery to post office. Came from the US . Arrived in country 9 days. Then took nearly 6 weeks to clear

Both packages came to final destination post office at roughly sane time

Been hesitant because of SAPO/Customs.

Well, DHL has just dropped off my Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 PRO - 3 GB RAM /64 GB ROM. Gearbest.com handed it to DHL in China on Saturday, it arrived and was cleared by customs in Johannesburg on Monday, and got delivered to me this morning (Wednesday), and I live in an outlying area - it would have been quicker if I lived close to a major metro. But in all, it took 5 days from the moment it was handed to DHL, clear customs, and delivered to my door.

There are no problems with customs because DHL handles it all. There is no SAPO involvement at all - DHL carries it from the seller, sorts out the customs, and DHL delivers to your door. Only one carrier does it all. DHL emails you the customs expense, which you pay to DHL, and then DHL pays customs on your behalf.

Now for the phone - wow, Deca-core (10 cores) and plenty memory - 3/64 GB !!! this phone is smooth, fast and very responsive. I can't believe the value you get for your money with the Redmi Note 4. It arrived as the "international model", so there was no fiddling required to get it to English - it comes completely English....no Chinese symbols anywhere. The screen is brilliantly clear, crisp and responsive. I was going to give it to my daughter after playing with it....but I might end up keeping it, and buy a second one for her. Damn this is good value for money !

Oh, the fingerprint scanner, WOW, extremely fast and accurate. It takes some time setting up your fingerprint - I had to dab my finger about 30 times on the scanner at various angles, before it was happy that it had my entire finger memorised and at all conceivable angles. Once set, it accepts a light touch of the finger...at any angle or position that you place your finger on the scanner...and the phone springs to life. You don't need to look at the scanner and place it carefully - just place your finger anyhow on the scanner, even if it is half on the scanner, and it accepts it. Try any of my other fingers and it refuses.

Here are the pictures. The home screen looks very basic at it's default (yuk), but I will customise it very quickly with new wallpapers, and new widgets etc

I love my Note 3. Been porting all my stuff from iPhone 6, and now exclusively using the Android!

Also ordered the Asus Zenwatch 2 from Amazon for R2k to use Android Wear.

What do frustrate me is:

1. 16Gig is not enough, which should be fine (I thought) with external SD card. Problem is MIUI does not allow moving apps to SD Card, and the app data is also not saved there. I installed the bare min of apps for me, but still need to watch the space.

2. 2Gig memory for Android is not enough, or is it an MIUI issue? I constantly get around 350meg to 400meg available, and sometimes it lags a bit. My son has a Huawei P8lite also with 2Gig memory, but his has over 1Gig available.

3. Due to space and memory, constant management need to be done, something that was not a worry on IOS. After auto or manual management, settings need to be re-entered.

The answer may be the Note 4.

Anyone else feel the auto brightness often makes strange adjustments to screen brightness?
