Well, DHL has just dropped off my Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 PRO - 3 GB RAM /64 GB ROM. Gearbest.com handed it to DHL in China on Saturday, it arrived and was cleared by customs in Johannesburg on Monday, and got delivered to me this morning (Wednesday), and I live in an outlying area - it would have been quicker if I lived close to a major metro. But in all, it took 5 days from the moment it was handed to DHL, clear customs, and delivered to my door.

There are no problems with customs because DHL handles it all. There is no SAPO involvement at all - DHL carries it from the seller, sorts out the customs, and DHL delivers to your door. Only one carrier does it all. DHL emails you the customs expense, which you pay to DHL, and then DHL pays customs on your behalf.

Now for the phone - wow, Deca-core (10 cores) and plenty memory - 3/64 GB !!! this phone is smooth, fast and very responsive. I can't believe the value you get for your money with the Redmi Note 4. It arrived as the "international model", so there was no fiddling required to get it to English - it comes completely English....no Chinese symbols anywhere. The screen is brilliantly clear, crisp and responsive. I was going to give it to my daughter after playing with it....but I might end up keeping it, and buy a second one for her. Damn this is good value for money !

Oh, the fingerprint scanner, WOW, extremely fast and accurate. It takes some time setting up your fingerprint - I had to dab my finger about 30 times on the scanner at various angles, before it was happy that it had my entire finger memorised and at all conceivable angles. Once set, it accepts a light touch of the finger...at any angle or position that you place your finger on the scanner...and the phone springs to life. You don't need to look at the scanner and place it carefully - just place your finger anyhow on the scanner, even if it is half on the scanner, and it accepts it. Try any of my other fingers and it refuses.

Here are the pictures. The home screen looks very basic at it's default (yuk), but I will customise it very quickly with new wallpapers, and new widgets etc

Why the Qualcomm quick charger though? Or does it work with Pump Express of Mediatek?

No, the Qualcomm quick charger was not part of the Redmi Note 4 deal. I bought the quick charger at the same time, through the same Gearbest.com company, for another tablet, and was in the same parcel.

Are you using Chrome? If so try to use another brower. Edge worked for me.

Keen to hear your experiences on this.
Been hesitant because of SAPO/Customs.

My Note 3 32gb/3gb RAM was slapped with only R160 customs fee. (R2660 total paid amount) [Aliexpress] Your mileage may vary though.
1Gb RAM free (of the 3gb) at all times.

For anybody that has flashed CM13, is there any facility similar to the Dual Apps feature found in MIUI?

I see they are going for $200. Can you give an idea of total outlay including DHL delivery and customs?

There are a few options at Geekbuying, cheaper than Gearbest, but have not bought from them before.

Some say we need to wait for the Snapdragon version.

$202 including EMS (?) courier 7 to 15 business days + insurance.

I ordered a Note 3 Pro from Geekbuying with EMS + insurance, and it is still "in transit" via Singapore Speedpost for 17 days (13 business days) now. I hope it arrives in SA soon.

Id be more than happy to pay a tiny bit more and get the phone quicker.

Might go this route for my wife when her contract ends. Very happy with my Redmi note 3.

PLEASE !!!!! save your sanity - do not use EMS. There is nothing wrong with EMS, excepting that when it arrives in SA, it gets handed over to the SA Post Office. We all know what happens with incoming parcels that gets delivered by the SA Post Office. It will typically take anything from 1 - 3 months, and if it is a valuable item, there is a good chance of it getting stolen.

It is preferable to pay a few dollars more and get DHL or FedEx do the transport right to your door, and they also do the customs for you.

My parcel sent with DHL included my Xiaomi Note 4 PRO, together with an Android phone/smart watch, a charger and GPS tracker, cost me $ 35 to send by DHL. And then when it arrived here, DHL asked me to pay R 350 into their account, and they used this to pay for the customs VAT and handling fees. If the phone was on it's own, the DHL shipping cost would have been about $ 25 rather than the $ 35 that I paid.

So R 350, but that is including other items. If it was just the phone, I guess it would be around R 200 - R 250 for customs when it arrives here.

In the same boat, EMS was the only speedy option for you as well?

My package left Singapore the 26th October and still in transit, hopefully yours gets here soon.

Very cool.

I think I am going to wait for a Snap dragon variant of the Note 4 and then buy. From reviews, the Mediatek is not using that 4000mah battery as well as the Snapdragon in the Note 3

And just in case the phone wasn't awesome enough already - it has an ANT+ receiver - my Garmin Heart Rate strap can connect to it
