My Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 which I imported in October last year from Gearbest, is already on V 8.1.4.0. I think it updated in December...

Flipping good phone, and MIUI V8.1.4.0 is as smooth as silk

Good to hear that as I have been thinking of buying there many times but got confused with European model versus international ? Which works here?
Also does the courier declare full value or less? For duties if any.

How long did gearbest take? Standard free shipping? I'm still waiting for a Black Friday Xiaomi deal from Geekbuying :(

Mine is the international model, works perfect with all service providers. It is open to all networks and covers all bands including all LTE bands (even the oddball Telkom LTE band). Yes, Gearbest under-values the phone - I didn't ask them to, they just did. I don't know what they valued the phone at, but the duties to pay were a pittance.

I think all models will work here - they all include English. I just wanted to be on the safe side and ordered the International version. With the International Version there is absolutely no Chinese apps or settings at all - everything is in English...just like how any smart phone bought here in S.A would look.

It took 5 working days to get here...but I only choose DHL for my shipping - I think the $ 35 that it costs to send by DHL is worth every cent. You get very very fast delivery, and you can track it from the moment it leaves until the moment it is delivered....and the other advantage is DHL do all the duty payments for you when it arrives here, so it speeds things up.

:crying:

Shoulda done the same...

The cost of ownership, worked out per month, makes that $35 well worthwhile.

Did DHL declare and pay the actual value for customs? What %age did that work out to be?

They don't seem to offer DHL anymore. Just priority line and expidited shipping. Who knows it that means door to door or just post office

They DO offer DHL - I just went to Gearbest now, selected a phone and went to checkout. You need to select "expedited", a new sub menu appears where you can select between 3 different DHL methods which all list a 3-7 days delivery time.

Thanks. Didn't know that. I found that bigger sites especially AliExpress and banggood don't do DHL.

Just got an OTA update for my Note 3 . Seems to be a security update and some fix for a Google play slow downloading issue

It's 8.1.3.0

That pink or they call it rose gold Redmi Note is on special at many places so I guess they are clearly out old stock as other colours are quite a bit more.

The Snapdragon 625 Redmi Note 4X 3GB + 32GB version was launched yesterday which Chinese sites have on preorder but the 4GB + 64GB version hasn't been launched yet which is the one I'm waiting for. I'll have to wait and see when they do.

I just wish Xiaomi would make more black models available. I like the stealth look of a black screen (when it's turned off) and black bezels, edges and back. When I bought my Xiaomi from Gearbest, the closest they had to all black, was a totally black front, and titanium silver back - so that is the one I got. I don't like white phones - there is too much contrast between the screen and the bezels.

I see Gearbest have a pre-order http://www.gearbest.com/cell-phones/pp_612102.html?wid=21 for an all black Redmi Note 4, which is coming in a months time, and costs $ 45 more than the other colours...and their pre-orders are quite large. So it seems there are more people like me that are after an all black stealth Xiaomi.
