Xiaomi Redmi Note 4/4X

Last night, my Redmi Note 4x started rebooting itself. :(

I woke up this morning and couldn't unlock the phone with the fingerprint censor and then I realised that it had rebooted while I slept. There were a couple of reboots throughout the day, but in the last hour, it has probably rebooted 4 times.

Damn!

I have the same problem since yesterday. It seems to start doing it when it loses signal.

I have no idea what the problem is. When I stream Netflix or Showmax to my Chromecast, the reboot thing seems to happen more often. I don't know the terminology, but when I clear the cache of programs in the background (i.e. more than just closing them), it doesn't seem to happen that often/at all.

The Chromecast is supposed to take over, but Google Home, obviously, is still communicating with it. I also left "Google beta" and re-installed the non-beta version of "Google". Didn't seem to make a difference.

My next step will be to flash the f$@%# thing with AOSP. If that doesn't work, I'll (try to) return it to Takealot and probably buy a different brand.

I don't even want to talk about the stuck/dead pixels!

Hi AlphaJohn! Really interested in getting the Redmi Note 4 having heard great things about it. Vodacom currently has it on contract at R229 pm. However, I'm concerned that I will not be able to connect to my cell C LTE wifi router at home. Please can you offer some clarity???

Brandyn,

The Redmi Note 4 will connect flawlessly to the WiFi router. You shouldn't encounter any issues, however do note that Vodacom ships a custom version of their software on the Redmi Note 4 that disables the second SIM card slot unless you load the stock software over it (and void your Vodacom warranty).

Thanks PhireSide. Does this also apply to the Note 4x as well? Im caught between buying the Note 4 and Note 4x as the latter is at R179 pm at Vodacom. I did research on both and it seems the major difference is the back cover which is partially plastic and the micro usb charge for the 4x. Whats the catch as the specs seem identical?

Its the Redmi 4X, not the Redmi Note 4X ....

Hi guys,

So I'm considering getting the SD 625 64gb version from India. Its will be the first time using the brand, so I have a few q's. Apologies if the q's may have been answered before, I may have missed it during research.

Firstly is there any potential issues that I should consider with the phone being from another region, updates, bandwidth's relevant to SA networks, etc? I believe the India version is the Global version, so no need for loading Gobal rom from what I understand?

Secondly, I have been searching for a reputable/decent repair store in the event of an accident or problems with the device as there will be no guarantee in SA. Has anyone have any recommendations on where to send the device to?

Overall for you guys that have been using it for awhile, can you give me your thoughts on the device, any issues arising after long term of use?

Much appreciated,

Thanks

To my knowledge, updates come straight from Xiaomi and not through the networks

Note 4X Silence issue:

I'm experiencing an issue with the Note 4X when phoning someone after a while, sometimes 10 seconds or so, the person can't hear me anymore. This happens with any number I phone or if they phone me. Using Vodacom.

Is this a known issue?

How do I go about loading that stock software, Hard reset? I need that dual sim.....Vodacom limiting me here.....

You will need to download the applicable ROM from Xiaomi's site and copy it to the downloaded_rom folder on your device. You then head to the Updater App, select 'Choose update package' and browse to your downloaded_rom folder and select the file you downloaded. After it installs it should reboot and you should have the second SIM card slot active. Also note that you will need to do a backup of all your data on your phone as a precaution.

Redmi Note 4 ROM: http://en.miui.com/download-309.html

Remember to select the version applicable to your device (Qualcomm or MTK)

I CANNOT GUARANTEE THIS WILL WORK, SO PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK! Vodacom may or may not have some other protection methods in place to ensure you cannot use the disabled SIM slot

Can't quote your texts. Using a browser that won't allow me to.

My Note 4x worked out the box. Ordered from Gearbest. I tested MTN, Telkom Mobile and my regular SIM - Cell C. All connected to 4G/LTE.
As Sumen said already, updates are pushed from Xiaomi. We get notifications from the Xiaomi forum app, with bug fixes and any new features, also feedback from other users. This is completely separate from my network Cell C.

My phone has had no issues so far in the few months I've had it. There are no inherent issues I'm aware of. Even during intense gaming, the temperature rises by 2 or 3 degrees C. It's quite a performer!
With regular usage (wifi, some gps navigation, browsing) I still get 2 to 3 days of battery from a full charge.

Happy New Year guys and everything of the best.

Thanks Sumen & Jax. The info is much appreciated.

Upon further research I see the Indian variant does not support frequency B1 (2100) which Cell C uses for LTE for 4g of which I'm not too concerned off, also the same frequency is used by Vodacom for UMTS. I use Vodacom currently. For LTE Vodacom uses B3 (1800+) of which is supported. What does that plus mean? Does the plus (1800+) mean it covers up to a certain band frequency of which then covers B1 but will equate to UMTS (3G) on Vodacom?

For interest sake if anyone is interested in reading:

I have the same problem since yesterday. It seems to start doing it when it loses signal.

The same thing is happening to my dad's RN4 on Telkom Mobile roaming on MTN. As soon as the signal is a bit sh*tty and you try and use the data service, it freezes up and reboots.
