Xiaomi Redmi Note 4/4X

The cover is actually for a different version of the phone. The IR blaster and noise-cancelling microphone is blocked. I don't care much for the IR blaster, would there be any effect to leave the noise-cancelling microphone blocked? If so I can just make a hole at that spot.

The battery on this phone is a beast. After 1 day, 14 hours and a lot of use sitting at 44%. The battery was my biggest gripe with the note 2.

Is your IR blaster in the center or on the side?
 
So far so happy with my Redmi Note 4. Coming from a 3+ year old S4 Mini the biggest differences are the size, the battery life and finally getting access to LTE.

Very happy, especially given the price point. The non technical wife with the iPhone is quite skeptical of this brand she's never heard of... :D

For me getting 3 days of use on a single charge is the bomb, with a screen time of maybe an hour at most..... but what does eat my battery is Bluetooth with Smartwatch + Headphones (Listening to music most of the day) so phone stays in my pocket 99% of the time. Normal phones don't last a day with this kind of abuse.
 
I recently bought a Redmi Note 4 from Takealot, which is actually a 4x so I bought the wrong cover, but I'm really happy with my purchase anyway.

Not a deal breaker, but Google Assistant doesn't seem to work all that well when it comes to commands like "set timer" or "open calculator". Is anyone experiencing the same or am I missing permission settings?

Like I said, it is definitely not a deal breaker as I don't need Google Assistant for silly things like that.

Edit: I've just noticed that it works sometimes. Maybe it is a Google issue because it is beta after all.

Google Assistant is a woman. She sometimes ignores you. Instead of asking to open the calculator. Just say ''OK Google, please calculate....". =) She will then happily respond.

I struggled to get Google assistant going on the Note 3. Lots of permission settings and stuff I had to go through. Got mostly working, but the only thing I wanted to work, isn't working. That's enabling wifi via voice.
 
Hey Guys, quick question:

I've got the Note 4X from gearbest and subsequently discovered that it has an unlocked bootloader and a "vendor rom"

So the phone won't update software, privacy concerns etc.

Whats the easiest way for me to flash a stock or dev rom?

Would it be safe for me to download a rom and flash from my SD card via the updater?
