Yar! Thar be pirates!

Nah...this is more towards the people who produces pirated discs at mass and students abusing their lines.

I'm still not prepared to fork out R700 for GTA IV no matter how good t is :-)))

Oh plz, u mean, if u can't afford to buy something, but you can get a copy, you wont take that option?

Ya right!

Jedi-Master-BS'er ;)

ROFL so if you can't afford something you can just take it

lol, well, this is interesting, it seems people have forgotten some thing

IT'S WRONG FFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thats like a poor dude stealing from a rich person and saying that he's rich and he can afford it.

it's simple. Your simple illegal act of buying a pirated copy, has ripple effects as then you could influence other folk into it ect. piracy simply means that you are stealing from the developers and when there's no real dev's life to make games after everyones pirated then you think, oh crap

GTA4 made record 1day opening sales in the UK. I really dont think the devs will be out of jobs

You know everyone and their dog waffles on about IP, but how much of that coinage that EA, etc makes from these games, actually ends up in the pockets of the code jockeys that made the game. Anyone got a percentage? I would be surprised if it's more than 20%.
So this begs the question, where does IP stop and profit start?

While I don't support piracy your not really taking money away from the developers. They are all paid a measly fee - the mark ups come from production houses and retail shops.

They're also not going to get richer if piracy was stopped. If someone is not going to buy xyz because it costs R700 and would rather copy it - I doubt they would buy it even it copying wasn't possible.

Let's also remember that where 10 of us say, copy GTA 4, there are 100 who bought it.

At the end of the day, they're probably moaning about those few 1000 copies that weren't bought but they're rolling in cash!

No 2 ways about that!

You know people would not steal software etc. If the prices were not insane, argue that all you want but if you can get object x

at

a) R750
b) R149

Which one are you going to choose?

b) R149 of cause.

Of cause, just because it might not have the shiny jewel case it is the product. Thats what people want, cut down the on extra c@$p that comes with the products and charge less for them

... but i like the manuals and such... I miss the days when we had the 'larger' boxes and they came with cool manuals and maps and posters and shyte.

Then there should be two options 1) With manuals but costs more or 2) Without but a lot cheaper.

I love how the police, whose primary function is "to keep people safe" -
are being used by global multinational companies, to look after their profits.

In the SA context, its a bit bizarre..

The thing is that your average crim has more fire power, and legal aid, than Little Jim in his mom's house, with a copy of nero.
