Year from hell for Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter

No one here claims Du Ruyter is the new ESKOM messiah and he is also not getting a PASS because he is white.

Those that claim that, are just blatantly racist and I am surprised those kind of comments are not moderated more harshly, but be that as it may.

The rot in ESKOM is not something that is cured overnight. The infrastructure has not been maintained at all for many, many years so how is Du Ruyter supposed to fix it overnight?

How was his last few predecessors supposed to fix it, if they were only in their positions for a few months before the political board of ESKOM, threw them out and appointed the next guy?

Does anybody hear actually understand the scale of this technical disaster?

It is like having having to swap out the engine on a car, but the car must still be driven 24/7/365 .

All the pi$$sers and moaners and finger pointers on here: please explain to me how that is supposed to be done?

And stop using the "economic downtime" of Corona as another stick to hit ESKOM with: there were numerous articles in the press explaining in detail why maintenance was also hampered by Covid.

And those that do not accept or understand that, are jut plain obstinate or stupid.

At least ESKOM is now much more transparent during load shedding...explaining what has gone wrong and why and how it is being fixed and attended to. that never happened in the past. They are also being flexible with shedding, trying to alleviate shedding during peak traffic hours etc.

This also never happened before.

Now let's look at the financial disaster:

ESKOM sits with a R450bn debt burden of which the servicing obligations are R70bn per anum...where must this money come from?

Personally I do not think ESKOM can be fixed and is between a rock and a hard place. They are concerned about spending trillions of Rands to fix an entity that will never be able to recoup that money, so that is why they are going out of their way...or has been, to prevent private power suppliers to enter the arena.

What will a shiny, working brand new ESKOM do when most of South Africa buy their power somewhere else?

Focussing on Du Ruyter being white, is typical from our racist forum members, as this is what the current government also does, so that there is deflection from the actual problems and issues on hand.

Andre is perfect useless middle management. We see this in most large companies they are great at taking orders (in this case from the ANC) pretending they are doing something, attending meetings all day and come up with excuses for why things are failing.

But they have absolutely no original idea on how to actually fix anything and if they have they are to scared to rock the boat. They can just continue to manage the company on its current trajectory into the ground.

BS

Doesn't matter his colour.
But since when do well known naysayers and doomsday prophets have anything good to say about an an ANC appointee? Since when are they so optimistic, understanding and accommodating?

Since when do we acknowledge and recognize progress no matter how small? Since when do we even give an ANC appointee the benefit of doubt and time to actually do the job?

There is one reason and one reason only for this highly dubious and out of character behavior.

Your blatant racism?

Year from hell for Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter

Andre De Ruyter’s first year in office was a baptism of fire. South Africa experienced the worst load-shedding in history, he battled corruption and incompetence and was accused of racism.

De Ruyter took the reins at Eskom on 1 January 2020 after a six-year stint as the chief executive of Nampak.

He did not have an easy time at Nampak. Under his watch, the company’s share price plummeted because of problems he inherited from the previous management and board.

The life of a Fixer in a corrupt world:
Being a FIXER is not easy, but if read correctly(in reverse order) it reveal/expose the corruptees further.
Its interesting in a corrupt world how the restorers are quickly "brought to book" whatever narrative that book pushes, in comparison to the instigators of the problems the fixer must fix in the 1st place.

I see you are still expecting him to fix that Polo that you haven't maintained for 15 years in the same timeframe as the other guys yearly and properly serviced Polo.
Ive entertained this stupid strawman before.

We don't have just one polo we have many 20+ (10+ big ones that really matter.)

We need half of them up and running at a time. Not all. We get load shedding at this point when more then half failed.

There's always at least one polo standing doing nothing that can be fixed.

Give one example of something he actually did right
Oh FFS's ...is that a serious question?

He started just over a year ago and 90% of his tenure has been during a global pandemic disaster.

ESKOM has been fukked up for decades and people like you expect overnight changes.

When something good happens at ESKOM...it is suddenly Ramaphosa and the ANC that allows it and that gets credit, because they allowed it to happen or rubber-stamped it.

At least de Ruyter "was allowed" to start forcing Soweto to pay for electricity, making Soweto's payment rate double in only three months.

He "was also allowed" to get coal reserves back to what is required.

Unfortunately Ramaphosa has been very clear that there will be no forced retrenchments allowed at ESKOM. Bad du Ruyter...bad!!

If something bad happens it is De Ruyter's fault.

The previous CEO's ( post Molefe and Koko ) had the same millstone around their necks.

So stop asking for
Give one example of something he actually did right
it is nonsensical.

Unlike some people I am very consistent, I never swear and foam at the mouth while calling people incompetent, I treat all ANC appointments fairly and give them the benefit of doubt to prove themselves, as I have done with De Ruyter.

I don't come here and shout that people have done nothing even though it's clear that there are steps towards the right direction. When has the biggest moaner on this forum like Gottagoon ever had anything good to say about an ANC appointee?

Again, there's one reason and one reason only for the dubious and out character behaviour, you know it and I know it.

Where are you thumbsucking this from?

What does it matter? Are you upset about words now?

If the person does a good job and it is obvious to see, what does it matter if he/she is badmouthed?

Your desperation to make the ANC look good, has made you completely irrational it would seem.

This is seemingly rooted in the biggest fallacy of all, that you, and people like you, cling to and that is that, according you and ALL POC:

Criticism of a POC = Racism

Once the world can move past this BS, things will go much much smoother.

This perfectly illustrates how he is just useless middle management.

He won't push for anything that's really needed to fix eskom, he will only do what he is allowed to do.

With everything he'll run to his boss Ramaphosa first and get permission first.

You don't think eskom can be saved so I understand you you can think this is the best that can be done.

I think it is of utmost importance to save eskom so he is clearly not doing enough.

I think it is almost impossible to steer a sinking ship such as Eksdom especially if the rudder is also damaged, away from the rocky shores. But, all I can say is that I seriously wish him well in his endevours to stop this ship from running aground as without Eksdom we are fukced whether we like it or not, ready or not, JC is not coming, lets hope...

OK, I'll ask. Is the defense of de Ruyter because he is white?? If this were a black CEO, we would all be calling for him/her to be burned at the stake. This muppet has had a year to correct the ship. Instead we are seeing things like the some of the worst load shedding ever. Added to that, some of the highest tariff increases ever. Included are plans for new legislation to tax solar. And new tariff structures to punish those on solar.

And let's not forget he had the perfect opportunity during Covid to seriously catch up on maintenance. Instead this muppet is using Covid as an excuse for not doing maintenance.

I think @rietrot sees it. But the rest don't seem to. Ironically, the same people that don't see it, are likely the first to chastise the sheep that can't see the ruling party is fcking them over.

Do you even understand how a SOE works?

He is not the CEO of a privately owned company...and even there a board makes the final BIG decisions.
