Year from hell for Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter

OK, I'll ask. Is the defense of de Ruyter because he is white?? If this were a black CEO, we would all be calling for him/her to be burned at the stake. This muppet has had a year to correct the ship. Instead we are seeing things like the some of the worst load shedding ever. Added to that, some of the highest tariff increases ever. Included are plans for new legislation to tax solar. And new tariff structures to punish those on solar.

And let's not forget he had the perfect opportunity during Covid to seriously catch up on maintenance. Instead this muppet is using Covid as an excuse for not doing maintenance.

I think @rietrot sees it. But the rest don't seem to. Ironically, the same people that don't see it, are likely the first to chastise the sheep that can't see the ruling party is fcking them over.
He is better than the last few ANC cadre deployments who where just totally corrupt and incompetent. I'll give him that. I would not even have described them as useless middle management.

Do you even understand how a SOE works?

He is not the CEO of a privately owned company...and even there a board makes the final BIG decisions.
So why didn't we apply this thinking to the previous useless CEO's?

OMFG...not this schit again. Are you @TheChamp alter ego?

Are you really this uninformed? Do you think De Ryuter determines tariff increases? He now is also in charge of new legislation?

And 1 yer to fix more than 14 years' mismanagement, zero maintenance and corruption? And 90% of the year was during a global disastrous pandemic?

And let's not forget he had the perfect opportunity during Covid to seriously catch up on maintenance. Instead this muppet is using Covid as an excuse for not doing maintenance.

Another uniformed statement. Numerous detailed articles on the internet explaining what hampered maintenance during Covid. You only have to use logic and common sense to figure that out anyway...info on the internet is not even required.

You are the one that cannot see the forest for the trees...

So why didn't we apply this thinking to the previous useless CEO's?
Were they useless or just stifled by ANC ideologies? Many previous SOE CEO's have gone on to make very successful careers in the private sector.

It is curious that De Ruyter is having his apparent failings explained while other CEO's are dismissed as incompetent equity appointments.

Who were the previous CEO's and why were they useless? Do you even have any facts?

Dladla and Hadebe did some good work while they were there. Maritz was there for a whole 3 months over a December period.

Mabuza was there during the Task Team Era, where Ramaphosa wanted to run ESKOM personally and subsequently appointed people against governance principles. This immediately made the whole thing a political target which the EFF and other antiRamaphosa factions made full use of.

Then De Ruyter arrived 15 months ago of which 12 months was COVID.

What are those...apart from him being a Whitey of course?

You must be very brave becoming a big boss at one of these mafia owned entities. Once they don't have a need for you they will get rid of you in the same fashion they rape this country in broad daylight. But who can say no to such ridiculous sum of money. Don't cry though when the scum come do what they do best. I wonder how many of the CEO's were actually guilty of their crimes and not set up. Then again, anyone that gets paid so much at a multi billion loss in income company is highly questionable.

He's "failed" to stop load shedding (and I don't think that is his fault, but he should have gotten rid of a lot more of the corrupt and incompetent types). He has not managed to get a good handle on Eskom's corrupt and rotten procurement department or the habit of managers to use Eskom to enrich themselves, etc (I have some anecdotal info on this). The CPO they are trying to fire gas obviously decided to pull the race card and politicise his incompetence.

Now that a white man is in charge at Eskom, white owned media is now adopting a conciliatory tone towards the CEO. This is despite the fact that loadshedding has gotten worse since he took over and the company fundamentals are still the same. We get it, Whiteman good....blackman bad.

But you just, twice, argued against your own points here??

De Ruyter cannot stop loadshedding on his own...he is not Thanos.

When he suspends managers people on this forum claim the suspensions was frivolous and the people must return to work.

When he puts his foot down and DOES HIS JOB, he is branded a racist.

So I ask again: what has he done wrong?

Just like Dladla and Hadebe that also did good work whilst there, but not even that helped. It is always politicized and people are not given a chance to do their jobs.

Everything is still black when the lights go off.

My opinion on him is that there has not been enough time for us to say. But he did promise an end to load shedding in something like 18 months when he joined.

So why is the lack of criticism of him blamed on him being white? He has not had time to do anything really.

But he did promise an end to load shedding in something like 18 months when he joined.

He shouldn't have done that. I think he was lied to by his staff and technical managers. I have made promises to clients in my business too, that were based on promises made to me by my suppliers. Then my suppliers lets me down, but my clients blame me.

I think he is trying and has done some stuff correct, but it gets me riled up when the usual suspects here play the reverse race card, claiming white people do not criticize him because he is white.

that is just plain kak...

Don't feed the troll.
A Cadre has a farm where you will be well fed.

As far as I know we hardly had stage 4 loadshedding the past year. At least a step better than the previous lot.

Who appointed this useless CEO?

What suddenly makes this CEO the fall guy after so many CEOs before him? he is just a CEO like any other, you are just confused because he is white so you feel like it's you duty to look for excuses.
Yes exactly.. He is white.. That's my point.. You're quite a sharp kookie it seems that you recognize my inference.
But considering your intelligence, why don't you espouse your own point of view instead of merely extrapolating and publicizing mine.
I think other forum members might then recognize and appreciate you more.
