Can you please vote in the poll on which of the above options you prefer, and also let us know in this thread which services and pricing models you would like to see as a mobile data user? Your ideas may just result in something nice in months to come ;)

I would like to see a non-linear pricing structure for higher end packages – similar to broadband offerings internationally. The per-MB price must therefore decrease for higher end packages – something like:

1 GB = R 289.00
2 GB = R 389.00
3 GB = R 469.00
5 GB = R 599.00
10 GB = R 899.00
Uncapped = R 999.00 (what dreams may come :D )

+ 1 billion for this.

I, on the other hand, would like cheaper bundles in the lower end... I use 3G my phone for browsing and email when I'm not within range of my home wifi, and I'd like that to be a lot cheaper.

The mobile data pricing should honestly go through a total overhaul. Checking my email is expensive, I don't use 100's of megs per month (on my phone) so there is no use in me buying large bundles. R2/MB is really already expensive....

Vodacom 'rewards' heavy airtime users by selling its R1100 airtime voucher for R1,000. By the same logic, heavy data users should benefit from incentive discounts -- and users would be tempted to buy bigger bundles if they knew they would roll over.

I would happily pay a grand or two up front (money in Vodacom's pocket) for a really economical data bundle if I knew I could spread its use over several months. Vodacom wins, I win.

IMO the most important option to poll for, is who wants Realtime Data Usage Monitoring for Contract Data Bundles [i.e. for Normal CDBs, for Bolt-On CDBs, and for Ad-Hoc CDBs]...when that is available all sorts of things become possible that were not previously possible or that left a bitter taste.

I use Axxess prepaid, which has a 12 month carry over on my ADSL. Nice!

Why can't we see the same thing with our mobile choices?

Most ADSL ISPs are not ISPs at all - i.e. they don't have the overhead of backhaul links, they are simply resellers, and until such time as Telkodemonopolies is largely removed from the mobile broadband equations, you're not going to see uncapped mobile data, and if you're not going to see uncapped mobile data, you will also not see mobile data bundle rollover.

That does make sense, because if you had real-time stats and better OOB rates you could manage your costs on contract much better. The surprise bill at the end of the month is one of the very reasons I chose not to get a contract.

There is method to my madness :D.

I don't mind paying for the service i would be fair if i can carry over my unused bandwith into the next month as i am often forced to download on the last day to get the maximum out of my account.

This is of no value at all to those of us who manage our usage carefully.

Bandwidth carryover would be the best even if just for one month.
