YouTube buffering and other issues

Horrible buffering issues on Youtube this whole month. Everything else I've tested doesn't seem to be impacted.

Cape Town, Openserve -> Afrihost Pure Fibre 200mb
Having same youtube buffering issue . Tried other streaming sites all works fine. Afrihost still didn't resolved the issue with google.

I still believe this is OS issue than google. Buffering issue get worse during peak hours.

Any updates? Youtube is still a struggle at times :(
Yesterdays update:

Google is in the process of adding additional capacity. Unfortunately, we currently do not have an ETR on when the process will be completed. We are exploring other options to improve the experience in the interim. We apologize for the inconvenience caused.

Linus looks really weird in 240p.

Haven't needed to post issues in ages which is a great indication but that status page is awesome, well done afrihost!

Morning,

Apologies for the ongoing issues with YouTube.

We are hopeful the capacity upgrades from Google will be completed soon.

Why are Vodacom not having the same issues if it is a Google problem? At times Youtube is unwatchable on Afrihost 500mbps fibre (even on 480p) but is 100% in 2160p on Vodacom??? Same time same video.

This does not make sense.

Vodacom only pulls traffic from their caches and relies on Google GGC cache-fill to supply content that is not available on the cache. With Afrihost we get the content directly from Google at JHB via peering and if Google decides they want to only supply us from servers very far away we don't have much choice.

Did you try to enable IPv6 on your connection?

I was planning on buying a new router, after looking at the cost and being happy with my current router setup. If this doesn't get resolved Ill sadly have to move over to another provider, as a big part of my viewing comes from Youtube.

How long? It's being going on from February.

We had an ETR for today from Google that the upgrades would be completed.

Unfortunately that hasn't materialised at all in fact it's gotten worse where Google kick us off on peering and we are forced to transit the traffic to EU and US.

We are working non stop on finding alternative solutions that can improve the overall experience.

Google confirmed that they have made some changes in JNB that should imrpove the overall performance.

We are seeing good traffic levels on both IPv6 and IPv4.

Please check and report if any issues with Youtube comes up tonight.

102.1XX.XXX.X => jnb02s10 : router: "pf01.jnb02" next_hop_address: "102.XX.XX7.30" (102.XXX.XXX.0/24)

That should be perfect as the traffic is coming from Google directly.

You might be experiencing another issue rather than the YouTube issue. Possible line issue?

This problem with Youtube still persists on Afrihost. If I use a VPN in South Africa, then it's perfect streaming. Seems like the issue lies with Afrihost. I'm on a 1Gbps connection.
