Is AH becoming underhanded ?
Last night I set several downloads to start at around 10 pm.
From 10 pm to midnight all went fine at full speed.
Shortly after midnight everything slowed down to about 10% of my speed and stayed that way till my PC auto shutdown at 8 am.

Every single one of those Openserve ISPs go through a cycle of good -> getting bad -> jump ship

Are you on a capped or uncapped account?

Definitely not. Generally speaking we have a fraction of the normal network traffic so we open everything up so everyone on the net after 12 should be flying at full speeds.

Was this measured on torrents or direct HTTP downloads? If using torrents, it could also be issues with the seeders (especially if they are overseas in other time zones where they could shut down their PC or switch their uploads off)

I have the same 100GB account and I am not getting the speeds that I should be getting between those time periods that you mentioned either.
If you go back in the countless AH support threads this has been an issue for many many months with users complaining about the exact same thing.
AH will string you along requesting traceroute after traceroute.
Most of the users complaining gave up and moved to other providers (like I did) as the fault is always Telkom/the exchange/your router/etc.
Funny thing is my same line and router have worked without any problem for more than 1 year now which tells me AH has oversubscribed their network (not that they will admit to that)

I'm sorry you had that bad experience but seems like you might be mistakenly relating it to a different scenario. There is absolutely no reason to restrict traffic when there is minimal traffic. We pay for the IPC regardless of how much traffic goes through it, which is why we encourage people to use the bandwidth after hours as much as possible.

This has something to do with either AH or Telkom.
It is torrenting and there are many seeders.
Looks like a weekend thing as today everything is back to normal.

We usually see a significant drop in demand from 00h00 till 08h00 the next morning. That's one of the reasons that we have zero-rated that data during that time. :)

Do you see a drop in your speedtests during that period as well?

No, speed tests and http downloads are all ok, just the torrents virtually come to a grinding halt.

I'm honestly not sure what could be causing this. Have you tried restarting the torrent client after 00h00?

How about telling him to reboot his router as well?

The issue appears to be limited to P2P services at the moment, if there was a general degradation in service I would have recommended restarting the modem.

I've tried everything.
Reboot PC etc - still the same.
Switch modem off for 60+ minutes to get another IP address - still the same.
Run a VPN (Windsribe) - still the same.
Will check same url's this weekend.

Is this happening with all of the torrents at the moment or only specific ones?

At the time, I even tried down loading something very popular, over 1000 seeds and still the same.
Basically we have on DVD all 3 seasons of Hinterland but the 2nd season is all in Welsh so I went hunting for it on the Internet.
While there I also downloaded season 3 just in case although it wasn't necessary.

This is a strange question, but which DNS servers are you using at the moment?

LOL, I use the one's AH provide, but it is a good point, maybe I should try Google's, think it's 8.8.8.8 or something like that :)

It's always best to use AH DNS as it will provide the best CDN experience on our network, but running comparisons with other DNS servers always help with troubleshooting an issue. :)

All seeders spread across the globe magically all switched off at 00:00 SA time? :D
