Zest T1

Does anyone have the Apk for the Android L keyboard? I stupidly uninstalled it. In the meantime Google removed it from the Play Store...

Not happy. That student CEO is trolling us f'ing hard. After the update Google Maps is freezing on WiFi when you zoom.

Instead of fixing Google Maps the student CEO has broken it and has added new apps BBM, Facebook Messenger, Google Keep, Shazam (music searching app), Uber and WhatsApp.

Although my preferred storage location set to phone storage all these new unwanted apps get installed to internal storage.

The accuracy of the touch screen is also a lot better now.

Interested to see you say it. Zest didn't mention addressing it in their "Changelog" and this would be a major issue addressed surely?

Zest, can you confirm that you worked on screen accuracy for this update?

I meant to refer to touches not registering, the accuracy was actually fine for me before the update but some touches (especially close to the screen edge) did not register and that is a lot better now, sorry if I caused a misunderstanding. the accuracy for me was more because of my big fingers than the touch screen itself but for some reason it feels like my hit rate has improved.

I've found the same. The only accuracy issue I ever had was like the share via whatsapp shortcut when viewing an image, I'd have to be very careful about that or I'd not hit it right, it seems better now. Though it may just be a placebo like effect.

Wifi issues remain for me: I still can't roam between two AP's in the same network :(
Didn't notice anything else changed of note, save for Maps no longer crashing and the added apps.

Right. So...
On my way home in the car I launched Google maps to test navigation. Luckily I know where I live and how to get there from work because if I had to rely on this phone, I would've been stranded because GOOGLE MAPS STILL CRASHES- so no fix...

I'm still of the opinion nothing has been done to the touch screen responsiveness/accuracy as I'm still missing taps on the keyboard or buttons in Google Play etc. -so no fix...

As said previously- the input mechanism still ****s itself when restarting or turning usb storage on/off- so no fix...
Based on this I'll take a guess and say the homescreen icon issue on the default launcher is still also giving the same issues- admittedly I've not tested this but I have no desire to.

I've not seen these new mysterious wallpapers either (might be because I run nova with my own selected wallpaper but anyway), and so far the only thing I can see that this OTA update is responsible for, is filling up my very precious and limited internal storage with crap I don't want (speaking of that precious internal storage, this update doesn't address the partitioning concern either)- and when that crap is apps that I already had, like youtube and so forth, the only thing that really happens is that I have to update those apps again because the crap in the OTA update is out of date- effectively wasting 3x data. The original update of said app, the OTA update and updating those apps again- so no fix...

I feel cheated out of 135 mb of data (not counting those apps I had to update again)

So thank you for that. <--- Also, not a real thank you.

Afrihost/Zest, feel free to comment on this, I'd love to hear what you have to say.

Nope, disappearing icons on homescreen issue not fixed, even though Zest said it would be. Sykomantis, you know you're going to be berated by Zest as one of those negative people against SA startups? How dare you state the facts (that the OTA has made things worse, not better) like that!

Hi Guys. We are aware of the screen accuracy issues. Our tech team have been working around the clock on the next OTA update. Should be released this week sometime!

The main fixes are the GPS issue, icons disappearing and the screen calibration.

Here was what was promised for OTA...

@Zestmobile we are not out for blood. We are not attacking this great achievement. As with all companies (big or small), you need to be accountable for everything that comes out of your company. This is not a failed product. It has a few flaws, but it should still be seen as successful. We supported you. We bought into your venture. All we ask is that you treat us fair. You boast about your failure rate being low and we celebrate that with you. Now we ask that you help us turn this good product into a brilliant one.

Berate me?
Let them come. This I want to see.

(and yes, I did see the sarcasm there, but still)

Thanks!

Yeah, they removed it because it was in violation of the Google Play Store terms and agreements. there is a download link on this XDA forum post.

+1

After reading this thread and all the issues and the crappy attitude the CEO has, they'll never see my money.

Imo Afrihost made a mistake launching this beta product. Next time AH has a special I'll remember this.

Was tempted to get one but glad I didn't.

Google Maps is a key app for me and I imagine many other users as well. If you said you fixed google maps crashing in the update and it is broken after the update then what do I do? Can I trust this company to fix the problem. Obviously they didn't test the fix properly.

Capital. It took just eight tries before I could successfully hit that plus sign on tapatalk to add a picture. Then there's the extra space WIN..

I did get a crash in Google Maps the first time I opened it (after a few minutes) - BUT: it does seem to stable since then... I'll keep an eye on it.

For me the only real deal-breakers (considering the price-point) are the issues with Wi-Fi.
