This is the prediction of Western Cape ANC secretary Mcebisi Skwatsha in an interview with the Argus:

"In all likelihood what transpired this weekend is how provinces will perform at the national conference," he said.

Delegates' votes will decide the fate of the ANC leadership at the conference at Polokwane, Limpopo, beginning on December 16.

According to unverified results, provincial delegates gave Zuma 2 236 votes and Mbeki 1 394.

One analyst said on Sunday that Zuma's showing sounded the death knell for any bid by a compromise candidate.

I don't mind Zuma, I think things would be better with him around... I'm affraid of Tokyo Sexwale because he might screw the little people and change this country to where the middle class is more ****ed than ever and the upper-class business people more rich. What Mugabe traits has he displayed? Mbeki is the one pushing for a 3rd term.

Also the shower jokes are getting a bit stale guys. Note he didn't say that a shower cured AIDS, he said that he took a shower after he did the deed and therefore thought that he didn't contract it. A stupid thing to say, but certainly not the same thing as saying that it's a cure.

Anyway I'm not defending him because I'd prefer none of them as president, but if we're going to be critical then let's keep to the facts

I'm not on an IT website to get involved in some pseudo-intellectual debate on politics, though I will say this: I, personally, do not believe that Zuma will provide anything vaguely worth while were he to be elected president. Just like you think I am hopping on the media bandwagon, I get annoyed with people who hop on the "struggle" bandwagon. "Oooh, he was a great leader in the struggle, he would make a great president". I am leaving because I do not want to live in a place where I can't go out at night without fearing for my life. Where I can't go to sleep at night without switching on the alarm, a place that makes me be denied the opportunity to donate blood when in another country simply because I am South African and thus my blood is somehow unclean. I am tired of hearing stories of grown men raping infants, I am sick to death of our "free and fair" government refusing to let companies hire me because I am white, not to mention the fact that discrimination against me can not ever be considered racist.

I have had enough of this country, and Zuma being elected president is just another nail in the coffin, because it sure as hell is not a positive step.

I have got to warn all of you who think the grass is greener 'over there', crime is an issue where ever people congregate but for some reason South Africans seem to think (no doubt because they read the papers every day and those papers tell them crime is rampant) that crime is only a South African problem. I have lived in a lot of cities all over the world and let me tell you its the same, Syndey, Singapore, Hong Kong , New York, LA (1500 murders a month on the east side and no press as it is so common) and lets not forget London where so far 32 youngsters under the age of consent have been shot or killed by someone of a similar age. You cannot walk in the street without being carefull and no it is REALLY not safe to walk in any of those cities talking on your cellular mobile phone. A freind of mine woke up the other nite to hear large "rats" walking about his roof, and no it was not RSA it was in a sleepy 'safer' part of london - they were stealing the roof tiles and he had SWITCH OFF HIS ALARM BEFORE CALLING THE COPS. He goes to bed every night and has to switch his alarm on from his bedside remote.

As to the rascist rubbish that you have been subjected to , take up the cause with the local MP start a press campaign about rascism but run? No DO something for yourself because you only have yourself to blame if you leave. You will discover like many other South Afrcans that it is better 'back home' but that you are too broke to come home. Take your struggle to the courts if need be and do not let the rascism stop you. Fight for your rights as it is your own fault if you lose them by giving up.

You have to use every means at your disposal to create opportunity, this is no different!

Show that you have a love for your country by staying and proving that white south africans are not just economic cowards. Be that strong South African that you can be, because being an African is in your blood and it will always go with you.

And please guys because I call you African does not mean you are automatically black!

Fight, talk yell if you have to but do not stand for this injustice by running away - it never solved anything!

Apart from the general allegation of drunk on power, you're wrong, or at best lack proof on all the other charges. I'm, not defending Zuma, but like HF_GP said if we're going to discuss things lets discuss them honestly.

I don't believe running away is the answer either but i won't b*tch about someone wanting to leave the country to go live in a more safe and care free environment. Yes there will always still be the risk of murder,rape etc etc but your actual chances of that IS lower.

This whole "it can happen to you anywhere" argument wears a little thin too quickly. If people feel they can be happier elsewhere then so be it.

We do live in an incredibly violent society where crime is no longer just crime but something different entirely.

Yeah, because name calling is just that mature. You know something, the grass sure as hell is greener on the other side. I mean, I bet in France or Germany or Prague or Honolulu my friend's mother would also have been stabbed to death by a 14 year old, right? Let's be honest here, I'd be happy to stay and make things better if I saw that the rest of the country was vaguely even attempting to do that, but it is quite clear, if they want Zuma as president, this place is only going to get worse. I'm not so blinded by desperately wanting to be "proudly South African" that I can't see that this country is on a steady decline, and it looks likes things are about to get a lot worse. I'd be prepared to make a stand if this government was prepared to make a stand, but they're not.

But hey, this is just my opinion and how I currently feel towards what is supposed to be "my" country, so I guess it is quite sad. And maybe I am "dumb" for not wanting to blindly believe in an ideal that I can quite plainly see is never going to emerge, then so be it. But hell if it does then that's great and I guess I'm wrong. However, until I see someone currently in power taking a positive step, I'm going to stick with my convictions. I'm a realist, not an idealist.

London is not the only place you can live in the UK. Try a nice country village and you'll be able to leave your door open. London a big city, like any suffers from crime. Comparing apples with apples I'd rather live in London than Jo'burg.

Personally I prefer living in Cape Town than any other city. If you're worried about crime where you live try moving somewhere else 'safer'. I took a look at the SAPs crime figures. Areas in Cape Town appear much safer than areas in Jo'burg. Try moving somewhere else in the country, you might like it.
