Called Telkom to reset the line as I usually do when there's a problem I cannot fix.

They tell me Clareinch Exchange is down and being worked on.
Always skeptical about their stories, always seems like a last minute answer when they don't know what's wrong.

Anybody else having problems?

Thanks in advance.

I'm on the Clareinch exchange and just spent over an hour sorting this out.

At about 8pm my ADSL stopped working. The ADSL light was on, so I was connected to the exchange, but the PPP light was off so my data connection wasn't working.

Called MWEB who did the usual checks, and couldn't find anything wrong. Was directed to Telkom. Called Telkom who, being the Telkom twats that they are, just said "the exchange has traffic, it's MWEBs problem....must be a user name/password thing." Went back to MWEB and had a very helpful tech guy try and help me. We tried pretty much everything and still couldn't get the PPP to connect, even with a Telkom Guest Account...which means the problem was at the exchange.

Called Telkom a second time and insisted that they do a port reset. The guy did the port reset (he said that it took unusually long to reset) and shoop da WHOOOOP the PPP light comes on for the Telkom Guest Account. Put my details back in and it works fine now.

So ya, get Telkom to do a port reset and it should sort it....hopefully.

My line is down as well. At 8pm or so I couldnt connect. I didnt bother phoning I just changed isp accounts still same problem. I put on my sad face and am still waiting. Maybe it willed be fixed tomorrow.

Yip im in Clareinch and ive also been down since about 8pm. So much for using the rest of my cap tonight :(

I managed to used my remaining cap before 8 and left enough to game online, but at 8 i cant do the gaming, Using remaining data on phone.

I had exactly the same symptoms at 8pm last night, but didn't bother tryng to fix it (I knew it would be a nightmare).

U guys back up yet? Im still down, ffs...

I had to actully phone this morning, get my port reset, but 5 mins later was back up and running.

P.S. The MWeb tech said he was not aware of any (ongoing) problems at Clareinch.

Claremont ADSL

Grrrr ...

Been in an infinte loop this morning between SAIX & Telkom. Everyone says everything is OK.
ADSL Sync'ing but no connectivity.

Our entire office block in Claremont next to Cavendish Square is down. Everyone has the exact same problem: adsl lines synch fine to the exchange, no PPPOE sessions are able to connect.

Services still down. At least Vodacom's BlackBerry Internet Services is back up again to return some sanity.

Could always swing the office's connectivity via 3G .... but that might cost a pretty penny :P

Same here for me - does the port reset help?

Port reset definitely solved my problem! I'm with MWeb, so I phoned them. Guy was very helpful, fixed in 5 mins flat.

MWeb now have their own IPC in Cape Town, and my case may not be the same as others (different DSLAMs, etc).

P.S. MWeb Network status still shows a problem at Clareinch, but that page often lags behind...

One of my 2 lines are back up.

Run IS businesss uncapped and a Webafrica on Telkom lines

Apparently they done a "reset" at the exchange and something corrupted, at least thats what I was told.
Called thrice for a port reset and it worked on the third time. There are still technicians working on the problem

Well, most of the posts about Clareinch going offline indicate the same time (just after 8pm), so it must have been something they did.

I'm not sure if it helps to know that others have the same problem, but it should mean they will try to fix it...

I'm glad I didn't try phoning last night, I would probably have been tearing my hair out :-(

Was at ADSL2+, now back at G.Dmt

Also synching at the Clareinch exchange, but now I see that the line speed is back at 4mbit and modulation is G.Dmt. Last night it was 10mbit and modulation ADSL2+. Sucks :(

Anybody else notice this too at the Clareinch exchange?
