As you all have heard about this , either too late or just in time, i would like for everyone to give their experience on the service.

*This is merely to see if the service will come to a stand still or we are being given a lot of bandwidth like never before.

* like a pack of hungry vegetarian animals given 2 months of food in advance (i don't know meat analogies).

So let me start

Afrihost 20GB Capped account

Performance : HTTP is quick however some websites there is abit of lag but very acceptable.
Edit: will post more stats from myside a little later on :p

It is your choice how you would like to present your performance information so here are just a few to get started with.

1. NNTP / Torrents / HTTP Premium hosting sites - This one is going to be popular among the users
2. Online Gaming - Also another popular way to measure how things are going with both international and local latency
3. Streaming - Youtube & Online radio.
4. Speedtest@mybroadband
5. Tracert - your favorite websites
6. Gmail chat - heard alot of users where having a problem wrt this using Mweb a week or so back
7. "insert other form of testing here"

Regards,

Yuu

NB: Cancel your account before 24th August 2011 to avoid being billed full service fee (50GB Account or above) :p
thanks HavocXphere for this correction :)

im very happy with my free 10 GB account, getting full speed @ 620Kb/s via HTTP.

youtube HD @720p streaming well without buffering.

It's not that they gave away 1000's of accounts. Doubt the service will be any poorer than normal, but lets see :)

Date I say 'thank goodness for that', for existing customers :p

I am shocked at the service. As a loyal paying customer, they can send a newsletter to inform us about these specials. I dont click on their website everyday to see these specials.

I agree. Have been with them almost since inception and yet to receive any opportunity of "reward" from them.

I am currently awaiting the massive QQ on these forums when people get billed for accounts on 1 September.

Doubt it, I opened, cancelled and up/downgraded a lot of my Afrihost accounts, always worked 100%.. Just do it before the 24th.

+1

constantly make use of the 2-for-1 specials, but that is when I actually see they running them for myself without any notifications.

Got the 50gb account. Very impressed with speed. Latency is not as low as I would like, but speeds and stability are absolutely fine.

torrented 21GB down and a couple up over 12 hours from last night till today morning (10mbps adsl line). While i was monitoring it, I saw speeds peak at about 900KBps on a well seeded torrent. Very happy! haven't tested during peak times.

Sofar so good, did not do much downloading yesterday, but I must say the latency (even on the uncapped 1024 on my 2048 line) is excellent to my overseas gaming servers.
Will do some real tests tonight with regards to p2p downloads, and post up the results.
YouTube compared to MWEB seems more tolerable now, even at 720p - this officiates my cancellation of my MWEB contract - moving ISP seems to be for the best :)

Now to pick between Afrihost and OpenWeb..

Afrihost dies if you start downloading, I think every 50GB or so they slow you down more and more so there is no contest between them an Openweb really...
