You must know I come from an ISP that struggled to play Youtube videos even on 240

So this is heaven

Hi AfriMan

I am with MWEB, have 4Mb Uncapped. Thinking of swapping over and have been hearing very good things.

Do you PM temporary account details for users to test?

We don't do trial accounts, but I can usually PM a link for a discount on your first month, or let you know if we have any special promotions running at the moment.

Drop me a message :)

This is the first line in the article that appeared in My BB on 8th March "Afrihost has announced that it will ‘un-shape’ all its uncapped ADSL traffic following an upgrade to its ADSL network." Further down in the article it says "Afrihost said that its upgraded network is performing at excellent levels, which gave them the confidence to “completely unshape all uncapped ADSL traffic”.

“The decision to do this is mainly intended to thank and reward our uncapped ADSL clients for their patience and support while the upgrades were in progress,” said Afrihost.

“The second objective is to demonstrate the capabilities of the upgraded network – in terms of delivering exceptional throughput and a low latency ADSL experience.”

Afrihost is confident that their additional capacity will more than handle the additional traffic, and after a week has passed they will re-assess their current shaping policies.

“We will absorb the cost of additional unshaped bandwidth completely,” the company said.

I hope that this spokepersons pants are still on fire!!

You must remember that MyBB takes extracts of what is conveyed to them to make up their article. In our official press release we do mention that this will apply for a week minimum, and thereafter we'll be reviewing how we re-implement QoS shaping. I had thought that this was in their article, but it's certainly in our newsroom. Other people on the thread also mentioned it so I think it's public knowledge :)

Afriman will the business uncapped perform as well as this product? I am going to PM you as this is seriously ROCKING!

Afriman it even states so in the MYBB article.
Unfortunately people only read what they want to, they take snippets and make that true, instead of reading ALL the print and get the TOTAL picture.

I think also certain people don't fully understand what they read, and only catch a glimpse of the full content.

I was sadly one of those people and sadly made an arse of myself. However it does teach one to always READ EVERYTHING SLOWLY.

Kudo's to Afrihost for doing this because if they hadn't I would never even had considered the business account

Good job Afrihost, my home uncapped internet account is running great. :D.
I hope things will stay this like this.

Latency: 414 ms

have seen a lot of Telkom techs, with their heads stuck in big blue boxes alongside the road today......

AfriMan, I'm getting some awesome speeds on my side, whatever this is, please don't change anything. I'm willing to pay the required amount of money for this type of internet speed. Man, this is awesome!!! :D Please tell them not to change anything! :)

things are once again sweet... well almost.. torrents were running at about 180kb/s earlier but dropped to 13,6 BUT

4MB International

I am with Afrihost and since I changed from my 50 gig capped line to uncapped my line as gone slower , at least keep my speed the same until i reach 50 gigs then u can throttle my line . Grrrrrrrrrr

We are not shaping uncapped accounts at the present time, so there should be little difference. However, remember that Capped accounts are always managed in a way that gives them best performance and lowest possible contention, while Uncapped accounts will also have QoS applied, if you are running multiple services. So if you are ONLY torrenting on Uncapped, you should get the best speed your line can provide. If you're also browsing, streaming, etc, then speeds will adjust accordingly for the best overall experience.

Once we implement shaping again, the experience may differ - but in general for now Uncapped should perform similarly to capped. With the extra capacity we have, there is very little contention on both capped and uncapped.
