MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 2

Email [email protected] and request the necessary forms. I'm still waiting for a reply, bit at least I have proof I requested cancellation before the last working day, so April will probably be my last mweb month. Sad times.

Thanks!!!! :) The problem is that my ADSL line is with MWEB   . I don't know how long it will take for MWEB to release my ADSL line back to TELKOM but I doubt it will be done in less than a week

EDIT:

Switched work over from mweb to afrihost.

Ridiculous. Can't send/receive any emails on mweb.

Cheeky MWEB

I'm in the same boat. Send them an email, you get an automated response with a ref number. Following which you should get a human response sometime after that. In your request, just let them know you want to move your adsl line back to telkom. Hope for the best, I'm not sure how smooth the transition back to telkom will be. :(

I have heard rumours that you lose your current adsl line if you send it back to Telkom and have to re-apply for a new one.
Does anyone have any info on this?

MWEB ISP Derek Hershaw said that the ISP has capacity on the WACS cable, but with Seacom completely down, this only covers about 45% of the total requirement.

“So most services are degraded to some extent and the particularly heavy protocols like P2P are not available at all,” said Hershaw.

Wow... so the 30% is now 45% and we're only degraded "to some extent" - i love press releases.

How about simple things like emailing services are down too. It a custom to lie to the public?

Dear MWEB Customer

The Seacom cable, which provides a significant portion of our international capacity, has been damaged off the coast of Egypt in the Mediterranean Sea.

Early indications are that it may take up to two weeks to repair the break and restore full capacity. We also have capacity on the WACS cable, which runs up the west coast of Africa, and this is currently able to meet about 45% of our total needs. As a result, most international services will be degraded. We are in ongoing discussions with various operators to secure additional capacity to meet our total requirements until such time as the Seacom cable is fully operational again.

We will keep you updated of any changes to this situation via the forums.

Makes no sense. I can then expect 45% performance/speed/bandwidth/whatever. I get pages not loading, BITS per second downloads, Google search results taking MINUTES to open. That is not 45%, that is like 5%.

If they have 45% capacity and have effectively stopped heavy protocols, why is our experience so pathetic? I'm using a 1GB Afrihost prepaid account now, just so that I can actually get stuff done.

I've noticed weird things. Some services, like NNTP overseas are fine, almost full speed some of the time, but yet I can't download a 200kb PDF at the moment from Gmail.

It seems like certain routes/services/locations are fscked up more than others, so I assume/guess there's a routing problem and this temporary measure is not 'balanced' correctly, but I don't know how these sort of things work so I may be completely wrong.

Is it only uncapped account experiencing this downgraded performance? Two people I know on MWEB capped accounts seem to be absolutely fine ... ?

+1
Will do the same. On Axxess pro-rata, flying. My beef with MWEB is even before SEACOM. A good chance they went into SEACOM risk with eyes wide open. So looking to others. Axess or Afrihost..

I left my ADSL line management to a 3rd party long ago, currently with Webafrica, that way problems can be queried independently.

Sorry MWEBguy.

Axxess till the end of the month + Mweb R29 1 gig capped to preserve email address

After that, think I will try Afrihost again (all the while keeping the R29 option going - that way if Mweb ever finds its way back again from the deep dark hole they've dug for themselves, it's a snap to switch back)

PS - this is precisely why I've my line management with Telkom and not bundled with ISP - allows flexibility

Exactly what I did. Just going to roll over R29/month for emails.

Pulled the plug on MWEB after 12 years. They actually did me a favour. Trying out Afrihost at present, using Axxess prepaid as well which I have as a backup. Free Cybersmart 10G/month ..Incredible connection deal (almost as bad as MWEB at present)

It feels good walking away from MWEB , almost like divorcing a lying , cheating wife with an oozing rash and not having to pay any maintenance in future :)

Hmmmm, does this mean that Amobia WISP is also dead, they get almost all bandwidth from Mweb… don’t know if things changed?

The cancellations department are not replying to my emails and I can't reach them on the phone. PLEASE can someone who has received the cancellation form, post a link so I can download it?

Thanks!

Also intend to do R29 while I try out the Afrihost offering
MWEB clearly not coping with enquiries at the moment....the national sales line number is unavailable. Trying billing and accounts but wait is just too long

I predict that the MWEB CEO will be fired this week. He should have known that SEACOM's not very reliable. He should have foreseen this ****.

@MWEB Guy: Does downgraded international performance mean that I cannot download internationally? Because that is the experience I have at the moment ... I get between 0 and 2KB/s on a normal HTTP download from HumbleBundle.com, with nothing else downloading.

Is this the very best MWEB can do, after repeated SEACOM outages? Why does MWEB always drop the ball and scramble around when SEACOM goes down?

The download has stopped again. I might as well cancel the download and start it again in two weeks. This is not degraded/downgraded/slow performance. This is NO performance.

Come on MWEB. Why do you FAIL every time SEACOM goes down.

:( Seriously.
