SmartVillage 20Mbps FTTH broadband service launched in SA

They are in a whopping total of 4 estates according to their web site.

It is nice to see a 20Mbps service launched but what ever happened to sell cheap to get more subscribers and therefore make more money? Such a shame.

I honestly would rather wait for Telkom's 40Mbps service :D

These jokers cannot even operate their current network properly in Midstream Estates, how are they going to handle these higher speeds?

I am called out there almost on a daily basis to assist residents who are fed up with them.

So what exactly are they bringing to the table that is groundbreaking ?

10mbps uncapped for R1400 p/m ? Seems to me like good old South African pricing.

/sigh

Oh my lolz, atm I pay R7.96 per GB and R413 p/m for a 4mbps connection.

Smartvillage are really sticking their neck out with these unbelievable, unprecedented savings !

I am assuming the upload and download speeds are the same?

The prices are way cheaper than Century City Connect.

We can probably blame Telkom for that idea.

Good point though. Does that imply that you can source bandwidth from another ISP?

I reckon smart village buy wholesale bandwidth, contend the crap out of it, and provide an end-point to the customer with CPE.
