The little one was ripping my sleeve to shreds wanting to go BK so of course , they're working so hard for exams and all that and I'm a nice dad so i warned her I was wearing ski clothes as we would be waiting over an hour and was she sure she wanted to freeze with me and she was absolutely mind set so it was about 8pm and I could immediately see the line was very short and as I hunted for a parking spot I peeled of layer upon layer of clothing.
Got to line at 8.05 and was inside the building at 8.13 (Ten minutes Yay new MyBB record.) I'm in the minority for sure but so what. In five mins our orders are taken by effective staff, although I managed to confuse them but that;s ok so from parking to geting an order sub its 18 min. The order was quite large because we was taking some home. So we get given the cups and my little one gets a pink plastic princess crown which she promptly exchanges for Gravediggers Monster Truck 4x4 which I told her to flog to the boys at school ...then we went off for drinks. Little one knew exactly what she wanted - Pepsi- and I poured a mountain dew. What I like was I could moderate the amount of ice I wanted. You can't do that in even in the states. Then we go and wait for food at what I call "Bingo corner" cause thats where all the numbers are read and the food bags checked twice sometimes two or three times. One lady I caught reading a bag 4 times.
I offer my kid a sip of mountain dew, and she screws up her face and contorts her head. I said Whaa? then I tasted it and just spat it back in - it was just ice floating in fizzy water with a bitter bitter aftertaste. So I leave my dahling at Bingo corner and head back to the fountain and ask the woman sweeping the floor if she's in charge or if these things just march out of the kitchen by themselves. No, she is and what can she do. Well I said the Mountain Dew tastes like ice water and she says the third tap works (fountain has something like two flavours on each machine six taps ) so I say can't someone come and stick one of those Sorry we're broken signs on and she says they're trying to cobbler something to gether in the kitchen. I check 10 mins later and no sign and there's probably half the store now drinking flavourless Mountain dew with almost toothless smiles. Oh well. There's a first time for everything.
Now its what, almost 30 mins since the order machine spat out our numbers. Where is the food.? Bingo corner has swelled but no lucky numbers have been read out. Then thirty five minutes since ordering the entire store, the food comes and the kid and I balance everything like pack mules up the stairs where it's a Ghost Town.
The little one says she's starved and rips open the extras bags. thumbs up go to the chili melts, the nuggets. Two thumbs go up for the onion rings. Thumbs up go to the whopper and double whopper, but I've been in a lot of BK's in my time and I'm not calling this a BK. I don't care what it is. It's not a real BK. A Whopper is just not the same without bacon. You have to experience it to believe. Yes I know it's been done to death but still if you want my opinion there was a great sense of something missing from the experience. The kid now was off exploring the slam dunk court despite a sign saying no slam dunks. The games stood at the ready untouched. Then the kid found her type of projection game where they project ketchup and mustard packets and fish and stuff onto he dance floor and they all stomp stomp stomp until the virtual splatters hit the walls. - The playground was empty.
I was getting annoyed as this game was preventing the kid eating but at least she was building more sweat than a 5am pedaling class at Virgin. I patted my back for bringing up two extra bags to bring extras home.
Then I tried the BBQ wings and I bit into one, chewed a bit and spat it out, sniffed around like a contraband dog. Is this chicken?
The sauce was fine but the chick was a very sick chickie indeed. It had that ammonia/piss taste . Still i soldiered on and had a bite of a second and it was slightly better but I tasted and spat. The kid returned, glared at me, a piece and ripped out whatever made a wing fly... and promptly placed it back in the box not two seconds later with a grimace that she solved with a nice crispy onion ring.
We actually fought over these again- and the chilli cheese bites. It came to heated words and scowls but once the elixirs worked their fast food magic all was good in the world again. The batter is fine. The processed cheese is plasticky and the chilies are well I don't know. Even the kid who wont touch chilies didn't have a care in the world.
Now I was stuffed and I cursed all the sides. But wait let me tell you about the chips. remember when we waited 30 min after placing an order well, these arrived in two large packets- lukewarm to cool. Frankly by this time I was too stuffed to care to do anything about it. So McD and Steers win chips, and the Jury is out on the burgers. The little one gave the burgers an edge. The chicken burgers went into the take home bags and I flagged a manager on the way out to hand him his wings. Maybe they just need to check the cold chain? maybe I just got a Vrot piece. Nice man wanted to fry them up some more I gave him one of those best are you stupid looks I could muster and stated I dont want anything just take them away, get rid of them. And he kindly asked if I wanted a replacement to which I appreciatively declined.
