Afrihost Mobile top-up prices and more details

"Good news for current MTN contract subscribers is that they will be able to use the Afrihost APN (access point) on their device without the need to use a separate Afrihost SIM."

As a pre-paid MTN customer I wont be able to enjoy this? MTN is rather expensive.. (data-wise)

I believe that the APN will only be available to data or voice contract client of MTN at this stage :(

You can use the SIM in any USB device or Mobile device like Tablets etc. We should also have more info on what will be available from us very soon :)

Those are just the Topup rates. Our packages are going to come in very aggressively. I wish I could say more, but I can promise it will be a game changer for SA Mobile Data :)

How long will the data last before it expires? Only a month or will it last a year like your ADSL prepaid data?

i guess it will expire the same calender month. they probably want to be able to oversell data in order to make a profit.

larger bundles will be cheaper is my guess
 
Does this run off the MTN network? I don't have MTN 3G coverage in my area, sadly. Else I'd be all over it (since Telkom won't install ADSL lines either - in a month's time my order will be sitting with them for 3 years).

For the moment we'll be offering month to month products, but we'll look at other products once we know how many people are interested :)

We will be running on MTN. We also chose them becuase they have extensive coverage which is always growing. Hopefully they will be reaching your area soon :)

kk, thanks for letting me know. I checked their coverage a few months ago, and it was no good. I'll give it another try tonight... one can always hope, right? :)

I certainly hope so, since i'm paying R189 for 2GB with MTN right now (bolt on bundle) , so R99 p/GB won't exactly make me change my ways. MTNs contract pricing is R79 for 1GB (for 24 months), so i'm hoping it will at least compete with that.
 
the top-up rates aren't a game changer but they do set a bar on non-contract locked (12,24 months etc ...) mobile data which I think is a valuable contribution. Obviously the real hope is that the monthly bundles will work out to sub R50 a gig without long lead contracts (a month to month with a months notice setup is fine but above 6 months and things change).

Best to wait for when we officially announce the actual month to month products, which is a better comparison. Though R99 per GB, compared to existing out of bundle rates from most providers is very attractive :)

Looking good.

I'm not moving back to MTN in a hurry though.

My only hope is that you guys force down the prices for CellC & the rest of the industry... :)
