So now from that history I know I will download on average say 75GB for 9 months of the year, and over a 100GB for 3 months of the year (Oct, Nov, Dec). So better cancel now so that I can be at a decent provider by December when I will need it most.

Oct downloads to now is 99GB.

Downloads Sept 30 was 3.29GB.

So still over that magic 100GB. Should be unthrottled tomorrow according to theory

For a 1mbps account?

Now someone on a 2mbps needs to confirm whether the threshold is 200GB. Ditto for 4mbps and 10mbps :P

I still think it's ridiculous that we have to figure this out for ourselves :/
 
So far, it's

1mbps = 100GB (confirmed)
2mbps = 200GB
4mbps = 400GB
10mbps = 1TB

100*mbps, basically. But unconfirmed so far. I also suspect they move the thresholds around when necessary, possibly making this exercise a bit futile :/

It's pretty stupid. If they said "ok guys, the threshold for 4mbps is 400GB" I'd gladly stay with MWeb. My issue isn't with the thresholds (but I might be in the minority as far as that opinion is concerned), my issue is that the thresholds aren't confirmed and you can end up getting throttled for less.

Proble is the little guys are gonna start getting themselves throttled who don't know how to manage

I hear ya, but I respectfully disagree - the little guys are the little guys for a reason: they don't care about blowing bandwidth out their arse just for the sake of downloading everything they can lay their hands on (I'm generalising, I know). The "big guys" are the ones who do that, but they're the ones who'll cut back, not boost up. Again, generalising here.

I call these "dummy" downloaders, the use 30-50 on a 1mb account for fear of what would happen, now they know they can use a lot more, they will, they won't manage and get throttled, the guys using 15. Or less most likely are unphased and the guys using 1gb are fighting the most lol

Ok you make a good point - that makes sense too. But when I hear "little guy" I think the average home user, who more often than not has a normal uncapped account (not premium) and use it to browse Facebook and download mails. The Premium users, on the other hand - yeah, their behaviour patterns would most definitely match what you describe there.

And I suspect it is these guys mweb where afraid of, so we can tell them and kill mweb, or when the other ISPs fail we know what to expect if we go back to mweb, I am already as stated on the other side

Indeed. If MWeb drops their 10mbps price, I'm tempted to try it for 2 months (or well, 2x 30day rolling window) and see if I get throttled with normal use (bear in mind "normal use" for me equals about 800GB, as my Netflix HD streaming chows bandwidth like a Utah farmer at a Burger King special).

EDIT: If there are any Utah farmers on this forum, I apologise provisionally. It doesn't have to be Burger King, you can go for Wendy's too if you want)

Sounds like you should stay ah for now, maybe mweb keeps 100GB per mb, I hope they change the prices just a little better and introduces 50GB per mb at the better price or current but with faster speed, maybe 75, I think that would suit me better

You might be right. I hope not, but you never know.
PS: I moved to Telkom from AH though, the bad streaming latencies I got on AH made it impossible for me to stay there :/
