Android vs Apple vs Windows vs BlackBerry in South Africa

Nice to see other platforms growing. I wonder where does Symbian now stand, in South Africa?

BlackBerry remains the most popular smartphone with 3.30 million devices on the Vodacom network. However, this is down from 3.1 million six months earlier. From the article

EDIT: The bar chart also shows a 70 000 decrease for Blackberry?????

A bit off-topic, but I really like the image (bugdroid with sunglasses) used for this article. Does anybody know where I can get a bigger wallpaper-sized version? I tried Google Images, but the best I can find is a 600 x 400 version.

Looks like they amended the article to comply with the graph:

Blackberry only has such a large market because of BIS, I don't think phones with BB10 os are a major part of those numbers and will most probably never be.
 
Android is the most used but I feel sorry for the people who buy the models with 1GB RAM or less. Android is really laggy on those specs. Even on a S3 mini, the OS lags. It really makes it a bad experience after a while.

For low spec phone there is Windows phone OS 8 a much better OS for low spec phone and with update phone 8.1 even better.
Being a long time android owner I don't mis the android at all and Window Phone is working very well.

I have always disliked blackberry phones with their tiny buttons from the start. I have not used the newer BB at all but blackberry seems to be a sinking ship trying to get the water out at this stage.

That is a surprise - they're up to 50% of Apple's total and that's after a shorter time of active marketing and much less hype

They don't break it down but you can bet your house on the fact that the growth comes nearly completely from low end phones not iPhone competitors.

I had an Xperia P till recently with exactly the same chipset but running on a custom rom 4.4.2 and it ran beautifully. Probably find the Mini just doesn't go well with Jellybean and touchwiz. I am not sure why OEMS don't release low end phones with Kitkat it really is designed for phones with less memory.

Samsung are the worst OEM to measure Android performance with, given the way they bastardise the OS with their raft of bloatware.

True I got an S4 recently at a good price and it's pretty snappy most of the time, it's just the bloatware on the phone compared to my Sony it's like almost 2 gigs of stuff I will never use.
 
My Sony Xperia Z1 runs hundreds on Android KitKat. To date I haven't had any issues with this phone. So much better than that S3 on JellyBean, that was just awful.
