Messugga - let's start with your accusation "MyBroadband has been bought and paid for by advertisers. No way they'll report negatively on one of their advertisers". After you have proven this, we can move to the next accusation.

Why all the negative comments on Openweb? Openweb is actually the only ISP that does not shape your account after hours and over weekends. Yea, their speed during daytime is crappy but if you want to download, Openweb is the way to go. I tried Afrihost and all the others but they shape after hours and over weekends which is unacceptable to me.

We have looked into it, but to date none of the accusation stuck. It is easy to accuse – not so easy to prove.
It's a serious accusation to make, that Mybb is in bed with Openweb, and you ask for proof. The fact that you guys haven't reported on the openweb debacle is the proof. The facts about openweb are there, you guys just don't report.
Strange, normally they sell like hot cakes.Hurry, there's still only 318 accounts left on this special! They've sold none today, so get them while they're hot!
Skype booster is the joke of the day.....
Firstly I must state that our aim is never to report negatively on anything - it is to report objectively on all issues. Do we sometimes tackle issues which may not be what some companies want – I would say so. Will this qualify (all advertisers, of course):It makes more sense for you to prove that you have negatively reported on an advertiser. You say you have, so start with today's date and work backwards and let's see how far we have to go?
To Mesugga:
Firstly I must state that our aim is never to report negatively on anything - it is to report objectively on all issues. Do we sometimes tackle issues which may not be what some companies want – I would say so. Will this qualify (all advertisers, of course):
MTN - MTN fibre to the home – what happened?
Cell C - Cell C unleashes R2 per MB OOB shark on 66C promo
Vodacom - Get your ADSL at 2008 prices
Telkom - Telkom prices exorbitant: Vodacom
I can go on if needed…
You should keep in mind that we cannot simply make statements without investigating. While something may look like an open and shut case after a forum post, delving a bit deeper may uncover something completely different.
Your accusation is a perfect example – it is simply wrong. A proper investigation will show the same result again and again.
However, following your argument, many people can now be angry that your accusation did not make it to the front page of the Sunday Times in an article slating MyBroadband.
A better question may be: Did MyBroadband investigate the Openweb accusation? Or even, are you looking into the accusations?

Not sure how to prove that they were on different packages (one guy cancelled his account now). They have completely different line speeds however, the one with the support ticket having a 4mbps line and the other a 2mbps line. The 4mbps guy also had Titan Uncapped or something similarly bottom-tier while the 2mbps had a slightly more premium account.
PostmanPot can confirm that the accounts had the same password as I forwarded the emails to him.

Hi all
If you suspect that you have been duped by signing up with openweb and getting half speeds or no speeds, please email [email protected] with all the details. I have taken this route as i am fairly upset that my account was shared amongst users bar myself. I had a gold account that barely worked and managed to ascertain that it was in use by another person in CPT which is not fair. I paid the full amount for my account but never really got the service.
I view this as fraud and IS are assisting me with this, once done i'll be taking openweb to small claims court to reverse the money. will keep you all posted as this is all hinging on IS providing me with the details.
The bottom line here is Telkom and IS kept being blamed for all the OW issues and that detracts from their brand value they have. Openweb will need to show hard proof in the court that it wasnt them and i have all their feedback in writing which does make life easier.
@KALSTER
Let me share some of my experience with you. Let me know your thoughts on this.
When I bought my account last year, I logged into http://users.isdsl.net/. I saw that my account had already been logged into and used one day before I had purchased it. This raised my suspicions about the rumours of account sharing. I noted that I was unable to change my simplistic '1122' password thought the CP so I sent a PM to MrBEEP a few days later. Once my password was changed and messaged back to me in plain-text, I monitored the IS user stats. Guess what happened? After the other session timed-out, it did not appear for a few days.
I felt a little bad about having caused someone else to lose Internet connection for a few days. Because I also did not have any performance issues with my account, I let the issue slide. That was until a few months later when the daytime issues started. That's when the troubleshooting started with OW support and I got given various new accounts. I discovered that the IS-based accounts would be heavily shaped from 08:00-17:00 preventing any sort of browsing. On the other hand the MTN-based accounts allowed browsing at all times, but NNTP would not get past 30KB/s in the evenings.
This is when I tried to question what had changed with the shaper. I was lied to by being told that nothing had changed since before I joined. I was told that if I download during the day, my browsing would be shaped. My usage pattern had not changed, but I humoured them and scheduled my downloads for the evening. Needless to say, this had no effect on the crippling daytime shaping. I settled on the tedious task of switching between the IS-based and MTN-based account to be able to browse during the day and download at night.
I should mention that it is quite frustrating waiting 3-5 minutes for the OW support page to load, and then being told that nothing is wrong on when they test the account. Also, there has not been one case where they have found and fixed a problem on an account. The 'solution' has always been to give a new account. At any rate, my solution of using two accounts was cumbersome and eventually the other account stopped working.
I recently decided to do some investigating since I was now on an account with a single session. I shared my account details *gasp* with a friend and uncovered some facts.
By the way the SAIX stats for my account are the same as the IS stats. They just do not show the current sessions, nor which regions the sessions originated from.
- We were both able to connect to the same account. (two concurrent connections allowed)
- When I made two simultaneous connections to the account, my friend would be unable to connect to the account. When we were both connected, I was unable to establish a second connection. (account limited to two concurrent connections)
- When a new connection was made it would immediately display on IS user stats. When a PPPOE connection was disconnected it would immediately disappear from IS user stats. When a router was reset, the session would take +-30min to timeout before it would disappear. This is because the router dis not properly disconnect before resetting. (stats show correct current sessions to within thirty minutes; the locations for the sessions were also pretty close)
- When a new connection was made, followed by a download, followed by a disconnect: the correct usage for that session would be displayed on IS user stats. When a new connection was made, followed by a download, and NOT followed by a disconnect: the correct usage would be displayed after about an hour. (stats show correct usage to within an hour; numbers larger compared to self-maintained stats indicate other session's usage)
- When we downloaded at the same time, we both got full speeds. After about a day, the download speeds reduced dramatically and it seems that this was regardless of how much the other was currently downloading. This was rectified after the other session disconnected. (account sharing does reduce speeds, as janitor said, but this speed reduction is not immediate)
After all this testing, I asked to have the password change ability enabled since it was finally "available". This ability had the added effect of showing me my stats. The stats that OW said they did not track by default so they could not throttle you. Big surprise, I could see the stats for the entire month even though the ability was activated near the end of the month. (OW does know you usage and probably does not want to show it to you due the other session on your account)
With all this deception and terrible speeds, I am glad that I already cancelled. I should have cancelled sooner. Too bad my cancellation (or maybe the request for the password change ability) appears to have enable the newest version of the shaper. That is during weekdays, no browsing (or gaming) possible from 08:00-17:00, very slow downloads from 08:00-17:00 and slow downloads from 17:00-23:00.
the "pipe" the openweb clown was talking about is actually the god damn link................networking slang, ie, how big is your pipe? Oh it's a 4 meg pipe..............
Kalstar, i am all for logic and common sense but i'm trying to look at any concrete proof you have to counter all our claims......you do understand that EVERY ISP buys a pool of IPC bandwidth. Lets say 30 megs. That pool is split into groups that then have different shaping policies that take effect depending on how much capacity they purchased, most ISP's run at 100% all day as that's the most efficient way to manage your bandwidth.....through effective shaping.
What openweb were doing didnt seem to perform like this, they seemed to do it twice. They would sell you an account, sell someone the same account then claim the money from both.
THIS IS ILLEGAL as contention ratio's dont come into play here per pool as if you purchase a 4 meg account and someone else does and you both connect, if they are of the same level account and that specific pool has 8 megs available, you would each get your full speeds.
What Openweb were doing was taking the SAME account and selling it to 2 people, so when the concurrent connections took place on a 4 meg account, although they could have had 8 megs available, because of the account being policed to a maximum size of 4 megs, neither user would get more than 2 megs at the same time they were both connected if both downloaded at their maximum percentage.
Add to that the ridiculous shaping policies applied to the pools that only got removed at 11pm and you have what we call a complete CLUSTER ***** of an ISP who would then blame Telkom.............So tell me now who pays the 3 grand i spent laying new copper from the telkom exchange to my house.......i believe it should be Openweb as they blatantly lied about the way their policing worked.
I was fortunate enough to interrogate one of their clowns in the technical department and it was scary...........anyone of my junior CCNA's would have smelt the absolute bull**** that perpetuated from their side.
Luckily i backed off from going mental at their staff and starting my own investigations with Telkom tier 2 and that's when i found my flippin account connected elsewhere in cape town..........we then worked back through all my accounts and found out that at the EXACT times i couldnt authenticate it was due to the same account being used in other places. i would have to call openweb only to be given another account name which made me wonder.........
I offered to assist openweb last year by getting both Telkom Tier 2 and Saix involved as well as IS Backbone engineers........the minute i did this, all communication ceased and they ignored my please.........now you tell me Kalstar, if your client had an issue, and he was willing to get everyone on the phone that managed the service end to end to solve the issue, why the hell wouldnt you want to get involved hey?
This thread is why, they are lying and perpetuating FRAUD!
THE TRUTH ABOUT OPENWEB
1. Only "ISP" that don't keep track of your usage, but why. Maybe #3 below? Also see "Other"
2. All accounts get SHAPED and/or THROTTLED to death... Yet its clearly stated on their website you would never been THROTTLED.
3. Lots of OW accounts are being SHARED. I got the proof of my account being shared

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=122933&d=1401832605
4. Resell IS, MTN etc products and thus don't need an office as most of their stuff are done by IS etc anyway. Its called "ISP in a Box". They buy "X" amount of gigs per month from IS, MTN etc and manage it as they see fit, thus the endless types of specials and account types.
5. Only got a handful of employees - Leon, Zelda, Leoni, Charmaine. Athol and Keoma the members of the CC.
6. They use various names - OpenISP, Openweb, Myopenweb etc.
7. Committed FRAUD with their CIPRO registration using a false address etc.
8. Continuing committing fraud with their YelloPages and NetPages ads using a fake address :
031 5640956
24 KINGFISHER PARK,
45 MARSEILLES CT,
BRIARDENE
Durban (KwaZulu Natal)
9. Not registered as an ISP with ISPA or ICASA.
10. Incorrect Lindekin data.
11. Their MyBB and Twitter accounts stopped working around the same time.
12. "I'm afraid due to the destructive nature of the forum, we have suspended support here." The answer I got from OW about MyBB.
Other:
•Lying about usage stats from http://userstats.adsl.saix.net/ when they are in fact correct
•Blocking access to http://users.isdsl.net/ because it was too easy to see account sharing and correct usage, another lie
•No ability to resolve account issues besides giving out other accounts which are already in use
•Blaming Telkom/router
•Constant account authentication issues

+1. Same here. Moving along.
EDIT:As for the rest of the comments I also have no Idea why we haven't seen an article on OW from MyBB. I guess it's a very sticky situation and all of the allegations would have to be fully verified before proceeding to negate any possible legal proceeding from OW afterwards.
