Private contractors have been installing a large green covered cable with smaller internal multi coloured cables along Piet Retief and Figtree Streets. It appears they are using the Telkom man holes to draw the cables along under ground. Does anyone know if this is a fiber cable roll out to Nelspruit residential areas?

jip:) spoke to a telkom guy last week at the planning department and he confirmed that by the end of Feb 2016 fiber will be in steiltes and west acres max speed 40 meg:D.He did say that the prices will be much lower than what they are now aswell. So lets hope it goes smooth with the roll out of the fiber, will post if there is more info:whistle:.

Have you had any updates on the rollout plans for the ftth in nelspruit?

Max speed will be 100Mbps, completion time estimated around June 2016.

Check openserve.co.za to see see if you fall within the FTTH footprint & register your interest.

see coverage below, although judging by the trenches and fibre being installed around Nelspruit they seem to be expanding the footprint.

For those who are interested the first tower for Telkom's uncapped LTE is up in Nelspruit.

good deal, Pity they dropped the R599 price point. Post some stats once you are up and running, interested to see performance.

So finally got my LTE delivery, everything activated blah blah blah.

Did a speed test and got a eye watering 2.28Mbps down and 5.06Mbps, admittedly only on the bunny ears though, Poynting antenna still in its box.
So I guess I'm going to have to wait and see when the antenna is installed, have seen some impressive speeds on the forum

Any ETA on the antenna installation yet?

No not yet, phoned the call centre on Tuesday I think, guy said someone should contact me within 72 hours to confirm the installation date, nothing yet. Ill see if I can get hold of someone else to do the install, I have no clue what to do with this antenna?!

Spoke to an Openserve techie on Friday, he confirmed the installation of Fibre in Nelspruit. He also told me that they have just finalized installation in Stonehenge and we can expect speeds up to 100Mbps, expected to go live in the next 30 days. He is also keen to get the service as he is also located in Stonehenge and has been stuck on 4Mbps ADSL.

Looks like we'll be joining the fastlane very soon BOYS!:D

That is fantastic friggin news!
I'm on Telkom LTE at the moment but speeds have been pretty crappy the last few months, so fibre would be the bees knees.

Have noticed quite a few Openserve bakkies in Wilhelm street area and a lot of trenching going on but been quiet the last couple of weeks, how did you get hold of this guy? Would like to know of progress near me

He came to my office for some stuff so I noticed his uniform, we talked and he confirmed that they are busy and almost finished. Hope it does happen sooner rather than later.

I live near El Madre in Nelspruit, close to Wilhelm street. There is fibre 80m from my house, but Telkom is not planning to provide fibre connections to my neighbourhood.
It is so frustrating, as the best I can do on ADSL is 1,2Mb\s, due to the distance to the exhange in Steiltes.

Good luck in getting fibre to your place, even if the cables is available Telkom only provide connection to a selected view

I feel your pain man, our offices are at El Madre and we used to be on Telkom Adsl, what a pain. Crazy slow speed, constant disconnects. Telkom techies reckoned its the age of the wiring etc.
Ill be really pissed if they dug up the entire road just to tell my they cant give me a connection, think Ill hijack the next Openserve guy I see and try to get some info out of him
