Installing Telkom FTTH through WebAfrica

Does the webafrica DSL usage console work?

Mine still shows 0 data used since Saturday.

Or am I doing something wrong?

So what a joke it's been dealing with Web Africa so far. I chose them as a service provider under the auspices that they provided good an reliable fibre packages and service.

It's been 7 weeks and after phoning absolutely everyone from Webafrica, Telkom to Openserve i am now being told the splitter in my area is full (Newly built up area) and that fibre isn't feasible???

Where the heck does this leave me as no-one from Web Africa has actually told me this in a mail etc its all me following up etc.

What would you guys recommend as the best course of action, so far it appears there is frogfoot and telkom fibre in my area. Any ISP u can recommend ?

First off, go with Frogfoot. It's cheaper and they have more to lose than Telkom so they *should* give better service.

If that's not possible and you have to stick with OpenServe, I would suggest ISPAfrika, they can give you a 10GB package (Which is just there for show - basically they manage the fibre for OpenServe on your behalf). Garth (one of the sales guys) have been extremely helpful even though I'm still with WebAfrica he gave me lots of inside info on how the whole OpenServe-ISP thing work.

I'm at the point where cancelling WebAfrica would probably be more detrimental to my whole installation, so I'm sticking it out. If you're that far from fibre then just cancel it and try Frogfoot / ISPAfrika.

EDIT: Oh and I have one of the WebAfrica Operations guys on WhatsApp for direct access.

Hey Man,

Thanks for the reply. I have done another check and it appears that the only provider in the area is Telkom at the moment.

I think i'm in the same boat as yourself with regards to cancelling the order being more detrimental actually, i mean i have the order number from Web Africa etc. I chatted to the service manager at Openserv who deals with Web Africa's requests and he informed that they are logging the work for another splitter to be installed as all 3 are full (Just my luck) however when that gets done is another story.... Seems like everyone is quick to promise fiber etc but not follow-up or provide the customer with reliable information as it's laughable i just received another mail from Web Africa with a status update saying that everything is on track for my install.. sure...

Has the guy you have on whatsapp been able to assist you with more information or helped at all @ebendl.

To be fair, I anticipated 2 months to get this corrected and OpenServe just surprised me this morning.

I still feel WebAfrica is either not doing a super good job at communicating back to customers, or doing a bad job pushing OpenServe for answers. I can't say that my sudden luck this morning is due to my persistence, WebAfrica's work behind the scenes or just a case that I was on OpenServe's planning sheet for this morning in any case.

The WhatsApp link was basically I think they forgot about me at some point and tried to make up for it. It definitely helped, though, and I appreciate if a company is willing to go the extra mile after they screwed up.

Also, as mentioned, the OpenServe installer told me that they're going to work more closely with the network team ("jointers") for the next couple of weeks to try and resolve open issues (at least in Pretoria).

I got an email from WebAfrica's CEO earlier, basically apologising for the service levels and that he read through all my emails. That's good gesture so I'll give WebAfrica the benefit of the doubt.

Also, the connection is flying now (even during peak times):

Telkom/Openserve is suppose to pitch up today to do my installation so lets be positive and who knows, maybe my next post will be using my Fibre connection, and yes WebAfrica is the ISP.

Telkom arrive just after 1pm and all was done just before 5. Must say they did a very good job and WebAfrica was quick to come and drop off the router at my home. Plugged it in, added the username and password and all was working

Guys, I would suggest staying away from WebAfrica.
It is 10 weeks since I signed up for fibre and I still don't have an install date. It is near impossible to get any feedback from them and if I do get feedback it is just one excuse after the other. I have even contacted their CEO and he hasn't even responded to any of my mails.
They clearly do not take their customers seriously.
If you're looking for fibre, there are plenty of other good ISPs to go with.

Try and figure out if the problem isn't just OpenServe?

Which area do you want to install?

Area is Eco Park Estate in Centurion. I have a friend who lives in the same estate and signed up on the same date and his fibre is being installed, pretty much after he caused tonnes of havoc for WA. I'm dealing with WebAfrica, not OpenServe.

If they haven't installed yet and you're sure OpenServe is not doing something behind the scenes with regards to your installation, then move to another ISP.

OpenServe is usually to blame but WebAfrica is not doing a good job to explain to customers how they're to blame.

If you're close to going live there's a risk that you delay everything by switching ISPs but it doesn't sound like that's the case here.

Hi guys. Positive spin here.
Applied last week Fri 02 Dec for 100 Mb line from WA.
My complex (Sterrewag, Pretoria) was wired by Huawei 1 month ago.
Openserve arrived at 1230 today to install.
Took him 10 mins to connect and activate.
Using direct PPOE conn between ONT and PC until WA delivers Modem.
Called WA and got email in 5 mins with login.

Thanx WA. Great service.

Mine was also done within 2 weeks, only a select few guys on here that have bad experiences
with WA.

Over 4 months in and I'm still hitting, under 10ms local latency and under 60ms to JHB, 19.00-20.00mbit/s and upload is steady at 9.00-10.00mbit/s, sometimes hits 10.88mbit/s

Never had any downtime, or any issues at all. Worth the money!

Hmm, you guys are making me 2nd guess my decision to go with WA to do the OpenServe install and using them as my ISP.
The only reason I went with them was due to them having that great special on for the month of March.

I am moving and currently using Fibrehoods and Vox - fantastic. Quick installs and superb service from Vox. Not to mention a heck of a lot cheaper with Fibrehoods.

I guess wait and see.
