Windows 10 RAM requirements increased

And with that announcement, my old 1GB RAMs value just shot through the roof

A pinch of truth or they are going to enchance 'telemetry' spying engine...
Maybe for this reason PC with 1GB RAM was more responsive than with 2GB RAM.

Now with 2GB RAM becoming official, you can assume (accordingly to MS standards), that 4GB RAM should be comfortable for use. But on PC with 4GB AM Windows 7 is much faster comparing to Windows 10.

Assuming I cannot stop this upgrade on Windows 10 Home, it basically means that my Windows 10 Atom tablet with 2GB RAM has just become a doorstop (barely a few months after purchasing it).

Nice going, Microsoft!

And mine with 1GB ram just became a frisbee

Why don't they increase it to 4GB?

A lot of smartphones are passing the 2GB mark now, so why would you want that tiny amount on a laptop?

RAM is also not terribly expensive.

As soon as you installed an AV program and opened an MS Office doc, you will have hit that limitation.

true, although dedicated POS terminals and simple PC's still use 7 and XP for the fact it supports old machines,

so all I think this will cause is people to simply abandon 10 on their older device,

Aha, so again money trumps progress.

•Processor – 1GHz
•RAM – 2GB
•Storage – 16GB for 32-bit / 32GB for 64-bit
•Display Resolution – 800 x 600

---- That's DOG SLOW!

About time they upped the RAM requirement. Windows 10 was the first time I saw my laptop struggle a little, and I had 6GB ram (upped it to 8GB now).

I'm still using Windows 7 on my main PC. But I have an old Core2Duo 3GHz with 4GBs of RAM comfortably running Windows 10 64-bit. I still don't like Windows 10 as much as I like Windows 7, but it's certainly not a bad OS. Backward compatibility with stuff prior to Windows 7 is crippled though.

Not sure of the big deal that 8gb should be the "minimum" for PC's these days. My Acer Ultrabook with Win 10 chugs along nicely with 4gb. Still questioning if another 4gb is actually needed.

4GBs is a good baseline. It's just that with Desktops and Laptops, RAM is pretty cheap again, so considering 8GBs really isn't going to break the bank.

If you've got a tablet stuck on 1GB, not much you can do, but I would imagine you'd still get any updates which follow.

I would imagine that 2GB on a 32-bit platform should be quite okay for basic tasks though.
