Telkom subscriber asks why her data bill was high, has chat cut off

That worries me. I've just ordered a Telkom phone and debit went through but I still don't have it after 3 weeks. When I call in I get a different story each time and the complaints email I was given bounces due to 'mailbox full'.

Basically there's no way of resolving

Telkom customer service has been like this for ages. I had similar chat logs with them, where they do not provide answers to simple questions, gets rude and then cut of the chat.

I have received service that would have gotten people fired if it as at my company, and even complaining to so called senior people, gets the same or no response. They really have atrocious service and what's worse is that they don't care.

I only laugh when I read all these articles with their chiefs telling us about their dwindling numbers being because of "this and that" or how they are focusing on service. I am convinced that a substantial chunk of their drop off rates are as a result of their customer service.

They actually have great products and offers, generally much better than their competition, but they have the worst service, hands down. Just look at the threads on here about cancelling a service. It is the stuff nightmares are made of.

I've been cut off or given the runaround -phone calls- more times than I can remember...which is why I refuse to deal with telkom as far as possible including moving my line from them to an ISP.

(And not once have I ever been nasty, rude or raised me voice with any of their reps.)

EDIT: Comment WRT "Customer Support"

"Telkom support ended their chat."

Happens all the time, as soon as you ask a question where the answer shows they are wrong, the chat mysteriously ends.

Yup!

Same thing happened to me when asking why I never got my night data.
Asked for itemized billing, showed them that they were wrong, chat ended.

Agree. Their support staff just plead ignorance when you confront them with anything that puts them in the wrong. Only way to resolve it is to get the number of the manager for the specific shop you originally dealt with and hound him. Also, twitter helps. They do listen on twitter.

Exactly. Funny how their calls are recorded... but never for your benefit. You should record the call when you phone support, just announce that this call may be recorded for "training" purposes :p

Where can I view my Telkom Mobile bill online?

nvm, found it.

I have long learned that with any Telkom issues, go in store. Their call centres and online support are just too ineffective and frustrating. I even avoid their online shop after a bad experience.

Luckily I never managed to sign up for their special at the time I was looking for wireless. I spent three days online and at the shop in Cresta trying to sign up with no success. Three months later I got a phone call asking me if I was still interested in a package...

People who still sign up with Telkom considering their track record deserve what they get. No special offer is worth dealing with those cretins.

Unfortunately no one else provides ADSL that I know of so until someone else does, some of us have no choice.

I also had data charges from last month on my cell bill (not a lot, only a few rands). However, I never went anywhere near out-of-bundle. I was also charged for a few calls - even though I had many free minutes left.

Too much effort to dispute given the amounts involved, but I can only assume that their billing system was also affected by the downtime that their online systems had and that some traffic somewhere didn't register against bundles correctly?

The old "Caveat Emptor" (Let the buyer beware) alternatively afrikaans version " Kul jou hier, Kul jou daar, en sied daar" - Cheaper is not always the answer when it comes decisions around mobile data etc.
Cheaper comes with it's own problems. This consumer made the incorrect choice and now she pays the price for this mistake.

I had the same issue for May 2017. Was billed for data even though I have a cap. Called them today, they say I don't have a cap. Bear in mind I have the contract for atleast 6 months and noticed the cap working. The team leader basically told me I used the data so must pay. She then said she would call me back from her direct line. I'm still waiting for that call 6 hrs later
